Hello from Grade 2 with Jackson and Julie
Respect, Responsibility and Kindness
We have had a calm and focused start to our year in Grade 2J. We have created routines and expectations together as a classroom, such as being ready to learn before school, entering the classroom quietly, walking in line order, and following our values of Kindness, Responsibility and Respect in the classroom. Students have been earning individual ticks for showing these values and we also have achieved 12 Classroom Cookies in our jar.

Our mornings consist of an InitiaLit block, which includes spelling, grammar, comprehension and fluency, and storybook lessons. We have looked at rules in spelling such as when to use "ay" to make the /a/ sound (at the end of a word, like "stay") or when to use "ai" instead (in the middle of a word, like "rain"). We have also learnt to spell tricky words which belong on our very useful word tree:

In maths we have started the year with a strong focus on place value, reviewing using materials such as popsicle stick bundles and tens frame to understand the value of tens. We have begun extending this knowledge to 3-digit numbers up to 1000 using Place Value Blocks. Students have also practiced routines that make Daily Review of maths more efficient, such as Hover It, Chin It, Bin It and Park It:

Overall, we have made a wonderful start to 2026 with our learning and behaviours. I cannot wait to see what the rest of the year has in store for Grade 2J!
