🧧 Year 3 Celebrates Chinese New Year! 🏮

Earlier this week on Chinese New Year’s Eve, Year 3 were very lucky to welcome Lucas in 3B and David in 3E's mums, Sabrina and Helbe, to share their knowledge of Chinese New Year.
The Year 3s learnt about what Chinese New Year (also known as Lunar New Year) means to families who celebrate it. They discovered that it is a time for family gatherings, special meals, decorations, and welcoming good fortune for the year ahead.
Sabrina shared about the fascinating legend of Nian. Students learnt that Nian was a fierce dragon who would come out at the start of the new year. However, Nian was afraid of three important things:
- The colour red
- Loud noises
Bright lights
This is why people decorate their homes in red, set off fireworks, and light lanterns during Lunar New Year celebrations - to scare Nian away and bring good luck!
Year 3 then tried paper cutting, carefully creating the Chinese character 'Spring'. Lunar New Year marks the beginning of springtime in China.
It was a wonderful morning filled with learning, creativity, and cultural appreciation. A big thank you to Sabrina and Helbe for sharing their time and traditions with us. We thoroughly enjoyed our morning! 🏮✨
Happy Chinese New Year to all of our families celebrating! 🧧
