Principal's Message

Term 1 Week 3                                                                                                            13 February 2026

From the Principal

Hi Everyone,

Well, it is very unlike me to get sick but out of nowhere I was struck down this week by quite a nasty flu. Thank you to Mr Thomas Corbett and Mrs Tara Griffin who have been the principal in my absence and kept the school wheels spinning.

While sick, I missed the excitement of the Brisbane Lions 2025 Premiership Cup being shown here at Ironside State School -  I feel quite robbed!

Thank you to the Brisbane Lions for generously allowing us the privilege of seeing their winning premiership cup up close.  All the very, very best for the 2026 season!

Next Monday, the 16th February, during our afternoon assembly time, is a very special occasion. We are having our Student Leader Investiture, which we are very much looking forward to. It will be lovely to acknowledge our leaders and celebrate as a school with their families.

There are many sporting trials coming up this week - squash, AFL and netball.

All the best to those involved and congratulations to those children who were successful at the swimming trials.

Calling all parents, please volunteer to be one of the P&C Parent Representatives if your child’s class doesn’t have one yet, it is such a wonderful way to help our school!

Speaking of our wonderful P&C, we are so very, very grateful for our brand, new cold bubblers!!!  The children love it and it is an example of why it is important that you belong to the P&C, it really makes our school a better place!

THANK YOU, P&C!

No hat, no play

This is an important message, but the answer is not for a child to take another child’s hat and use it or worse still, cross their name out and use it.

Please, we have spare hats in the office.  We need children to have named belongings and then to work to look after them.

This week, one of our little students, was hit by an older student riding a bike.

This is not ok and is totally preventable.  All adults and children are to walk their bikes on the footpaths around our school, not ride them.  Let’s all work together to keep everyone safe.

Walk our wheels please!

Finally, our Lunchtime Activities timetable is out. Please look at it and talk with your child about what is on at our wonderful school every day, it is important that they always know there is a place they can go to be involved in something and make friends.

Have a safe and wonderful week!

Yours in Education

Angie Kelly
