The Grade 3 and 4 students are well underway with their learning as we come to the end of Week 4.

In Reading, students have been developing their skills in visualising and predicting. They have been listening to and reading short descriptive passages, then drawing what they picture in their minds to strengthen their ability to create vivid mental images. When predicting, students are using their prior knowledge and clues from the text to make thoughtful predictions both before they begin reading and as the story unfolds.

In Writing, our focus has been on using rich descriptive language in narrative texts. Students have been carefully describing their characters, including both physical appearance and personality traits. When describing the setting, they have used the five senses — sight, sound, taste, touch and smell — to help engage the reader and create a more immersive experience. Throughout the week, students have been planning and drafting their own narratives.

In Mathematics, we have been exploring place value to deepen students’ understanding of the value of digits within numbers. Students have practised renaming and regrouping using MAB materials and a range of hands-on, engaging activities. We have also introduced decimals within place value to extend their understanding further.
