1/2 D - Mrs Monson

Mrs Guy - Prep / 1 and Miss Thomas - Prep/1

Over the past two weeks we have been learning about letters of the alphabet, their most common sounds and blending those sounds to read words. We have also learnt how to say a word aloud, use our phoneme fist and count how many sounds, to help us spell those words. We have also been learning about how to write a sentence, with an uppercase to start, spaces between words and ending punctuation. We learnt about adjectives and how to make our sentences interesting by adding adjectives. We have been studying the text, Our Class Is A Family, learning how to make text to self connections and predictions.

In Numeracy we have been learning about numbers to ten, in written word form, numerals, ten frames, number lines, tally marks, drawings, counters and place value charts.

In our sustainability lessons we have been learning about which bins our rubbish goes in. We ahve Dinny who likes to 'eat' landfill items, Yah Yah who likes to 'eat' recycling items and Bebo who 'eat' all the food scraps, tea bags, coffee grinds, and pencil sharpenings.

In our Respectful Relationship lessons we have been learning about Zones Of Regulation and the strategies students can use to try and get back to the Green Zone. Ask your child what strategy works for them. We have tried mindful hand breathing, drinking cold water, stretching, self talk, asking a teddy for a hug and asking for a break.

In Auslan we have been learning that Auslan is a language used by the deaf community. We have learnt that Auslan  uses the face, hands and body to communicate. We have learnt how to say yes and no, how to finger spell the alphabet and how to say hello.

We enjoyed our Incursion with ROAR learning how to keep ourselves safe and how to speak up with a strong voice when we feel uncomfortable. Ask your child to show you how they say, " Stop, I don't like it".

We loved our first Buddy sesssion with our Grade 5 and 6 students. We had to work together to find items in nature with a scavenger hunt.

Garbage Guts

Students in Mrs Murphy's and Mrs Monson's classes have enjoyed learning about our 3 different bins in class. We have Bebo, who loves our fruit scraps, we have Yah Yah, who loves our paper and Dinny, who eats all the rest of our rubbish that cannot be recycled or composted.

Students in Mrs Murphy's and Mrs Monson's classes have been looking at the different sounds below and how we sound out. They practice daily their sounds, spelling, writing and using these words in a sentence.

Numeracy

We are learning all about Place Value and 2-digit numbers, and which digit belongs in which column. Students have been using MAB blocks to assist their learning and looking at 1's, 10's, and even extending into the 100's. Students have been having lots of fun with learning Place Value and even creating their own Place Value Monsters.

Humanities - Geography

Students in 1/2 are learning about "Where do we Live and Learn". Students are learning about the location of their home and where their school is. States of Australia and capital cities. Students had fun in class, exploring on Google Earth and Google Maps. One afternoon, we were in France, looking at Chateaus, and had only had 10 minutes to make it back to Bunyip, Victoria, Australia, before the school bell rang.  Throughout this subject, we will be looking at maps, interesting places, and landmarks. Students will improve their knowledge of the country they live in.

Extra Announcements from Mrs Murphy's Class📢📢

Students have been enjoying themselves and engaging with one another as they build their Woollies Brick House. I love hearing the conversations they are having with each other, why a piece should go here, and you will need another piece there to hold up the roof.

Do you have any old buckets, spades, trucks, or diggers you are no longer using at home? We would love your old sandpit toys to use at school. If you have anything that is not broken, can you please bring it to Mrs Murphy's classroom. Thankyou so much for your Donation. 😊😊
