Phonics is an important part of learning to read. It helps children understand how letters and sounds work together so they can read and spell words independently. You can support your child at home by practising letter–sound knowledge, blending sounds to read simple words (for example, c–a–t → cat), and encouraging them to “sound it out” before helping. Reading decodable books and practising tricky words for just 5–10 minutes each day makes a big difference. Enjoy some of the fun activities (below) with your young child.
