Understanding the Disability Inclusion School Funding Model

Meadows Primary School is committed to making sure every student feels supported, included, and able to thrive. The Disability Inclusion (DI) School Funding Model helps us do exactly that.

What is the Disability Inclusion (DI) Model?

The Disability Inclusion model is a funding and support framework used in Victorian government schools. It is designed to:

• Better support students with disability and additional needs
• Provide funding based on individual student strengths and needs
• Build teacher capability to support diverse learners
• Strengthen inclusive practices across the whole school

The model ensures that support is not “one size fits all,” but tailored to each child.

How Does It Work?

The Disability Inclusion model has three key parts:

1. Tiered Funding Support

Funding is provided at different levels depending on student need:

• Tier 1 – Core funding: Supports inclusive teaching practices for all students.
• Tier 2 – Supplementary funding: Provides additional support for students who need targeted adjustments.
• Tier 3 – Intensive funding: Offers significant funding for students with high and complex needs.

This means support can increase or change as student needs change.

2. Disability Inclusion Profile Meetings

For students who may be eligible for Tier 3 funding, the school may invite families to participate in a Disability Inclusion Profile meeting.

At this meeting:

• Parents/carers share their child’s strengths, needs and experiences.
• School staff share observations and learning information.
• Together, we identify the adjustments and supports required.

These meetings are collaborative and focused on understanding the whole child.

3. Inclusion Capacity Building

The model also provides funding to strengthen inclusive practices across the school, including:

• Professional learning for teachers
• Specialist support and resources
• Programs that support wellbeing, engagement and access to learning

This benefits not only individual students, but our entire school community.

What This Means for Families

• You will be involved in any significant discussions about your child’s support.
• Support is personalised and responsive.
• Funding is used to provide adjustments that help your child participate fully in learning.
• The focus is on strengths as well as needs.

Harmony Day Celebrations

This year Harmony day is on the 21st March. In the week after this (week 10) our school community will come together to celebrate this special occasion that promotes inclusiveness, respect, and a sense of belonging for everyone. Harmony Day is an important opportunity to recognise and celebrate the cultural diversity that makes our school such a welcoming and vibrant place.

This year we want to involve not just students taking part in a range of learning activities focused on understanding, kindness, and appreciation of different cultures and backgrounds, but also come together as a whole school community. More exciting details to come.
