About Me

A Warm Welcome from Miss Joyce! 🍎✨

Hello everyone! 👋 For those of you I haven't yet had the chance to meet properly, my name is Joyce Jiang, and I am absolutely over the moon to be stepping into my new role as the 3/4A Classroom Teacher this year! 🏫🍂

I feel like I'm already part of the family, having joined the Meadows team last year as a STEM teacher. It was such a joy getting to know so many of your incredible children across the whole school, and I am so thrilled to now be able to go on a deeper learning journey with a class of my own. Being part of the 3/4 teaching team and this community is a fantastic opportunity, and I can't wait to see what we will achieve together. 💛

A Little About My Journey 🗺️

My passion for teaching has been a long time coming! I graduated from The University of Melbourne with a Master of Teaching (Early Childhood and Primary), which has given me a wonderful appreciation for the learning journey from the very beginning right through to upper primary.

Before joining Meadows, I worked as a Kindergarten teacher. While I adored the little ones, my heart belongs to all year levels – I truly believe every stage of childhood is magical and full of potential. I love watching those "lightbulb" moments happen, no matter the age! 💡

Even now, my weekends are filled with teaching as I continue to share my love for language and culture with a Grade 4 Chinese class every Saturday. It keeps me connected to the joy of teaching in a different setting and reminds me of the diverse ways children learn.

My journey into education has been a colourful one! Before I started my formal teaching career, I had the incredible opportunity to participate in and manage several Chinese New Year children's television shows. 🎥🧧 It was a thrilling experience that taught me so much about creativity, engaging young audiences, and the power of storytelling – skills I now bring into my classroom every day!

A Passion for Helping Every Child Shine 🌟

One of my deepest commitments as an educator is to support children who are learning English as an additional language or dialect (EAL/D). This passion is personal. When I was 15 years old, I moved to Melbourne and was an EAL learner myself, starting my journey in Year 10. 🦘

I know firsthand how daunting and challenging it can feel. I remember the uncertainty, the effort it took to find the right words, and the importance of feeling understood. This is exactly why I have dedicated so much of my research and focus to building confidence in young EAL/D learners. I understand their journey, and my goal is to create a safe, encouraging, and celebratory space where they, and every student, feel empowered to take risks, find their voice, and reach their full potential.

A Peek into My World: Hobbies & Interests 🎻🏔️

When I'm not at school, I love to explore the world and try new things!

· Music to My Ears: I am a musician at heart and have been playing the violin since I was 5 years old. 🎻 I love how music can express feelings and bring people together.

· Adrenaline Junkie: In the winter, you'll often find me on the slopes! I absolutely love skiing and the feeling of fresh mountain air. ⛷️❄️

· Curious Explorer: I have a serious case of wanderlust! I adore traveling with my family and friends to discover different cultures, landscapes, and ways of life. ✈️🌍

· Foodie at Heart: Most importantly, I am a massive food lover! 🍜🍣🍝 I'm always eager to try new dishes and explore different flavours. I guess you could say I'm a very curious person – about food, about people, and about the world! 🤔💖

I am so excited to bring this same curiosity and enthusiasm into Room 3/4A. I believe learning should be an adventure, just like exploring a new country or trying a new food!

Teaching Philosophy

"Every child is a universe of potential, waiting to be explored." I believe my role as an educator is to be a guide, a cheerleader, and a co-learner on this incredible journey. My classroom is a place where:

· All learners are celebrated: I draw on my own experiences as an EAL learner to create an inclusive environment where every student feels seen, heard, and valued for the unique strengths they bring. 🗣️❤️

· Confidence is key: Learning isn't just about academic growth; it's about believing in yourself. I work to build a supportive community where students feel safe to make mistakes, ask questions, and ultimately, build the self-assurance to tackle any challenge. 🚀💪

· Curiosity is contagious: Inspired by my own love for discovery, I aim to ignite a passion for learning that goes beyond the curriculum. I want my students to be critical thinkers, creative problem-solvers, and lifelong explorers of the world around them. 🌱🤔

· We are a family: We will learn together, grow together, and celebrate every success – big or small – as a team. 🫂🥳
