The Vine and the Branches

“I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing. If you do not remain in me, you are like a branch that is thrown away and withers; such branches are picked up, thrown into the fire and burned. If you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you. This is to my Father’s glory, that you bear much fruit, showing yourselves to be my disciples". John 15: 5 - 8

There is something beautifully fitting about the image of a vine and its branches. A branch on its own is fragile, easily broken, and unable to produce fruit without being connected to something greater than itself. But when it remains firmly attached to the vine, it flourishes — drawing life, nourishment and strength from the source that sustains it.

In John 15: 5 - 8, Jesus uses this simple yet powerful image to describe His relationship with us. He says, "I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing." These are words of both comfort and invitation — a reminder that we are not meant to journey through life alone, but deeply connected to Jesus who gives us life.

For many years, these very words have shaped the heart of Golden Grove Lutheran Primary School. This verse is not just printed on a page — it was woven into the fabric of who we are as a community. And while time moves on and seasons change, the truth of this scripture remains as alive and relevant as ever.

As we move through this week, we are reminded that just as a branch draws everything it needs from the vine, we too are invited to draw our strength, our patience, our joy and our purpose from Jesus. For our students, our staff, and our families — in the busy, the challenging, and the beautiful moments of school life — may we remain rooted in Him.

When we stay connected to the vine, we bear fruit!

Dear God, thank You for the reminder that we are never alone. Help us to remain connected to You — in our learning, our relationships and our daily lives. May the fruit we bear reflect Your love, Your grace and Your goodness. Amen.

Blessings!
