Year 5/6 News

Learning Centre Four

The past couple of weeks have felt very short with the Melbourne Cup long weekend. Despite the shorter week, our students still enjoyed a wonderful range of activities and celebrations.

Multicultural Day

Last Thursday, we celebrated our cultures with a fun and vibrant Multicultural Day. Students embraced the opportunity to learn about what makes us the same and what makes us different, recognising and celebrating the amazing diversity within our community. As class groups, we explored the cultures of Australia, Africa and Italy, taking part in engaging and hands-on activities.

Today we celebrated Feast Day with a beautiful Procession of Mary around the school, followed by a special Mass. The celebrations continued with an epic session of Kaboom Kids, where students took part in a variety of energetic sporting activities. There was plenty of dancing, singing, cheering and an abundance of team spirit!

Maths: Over the past two weeks, children in Our Lady of the Southern Cross Primary School have conducted Essential Assessments in aspects that link to literacy and numeracy. These assessments gave the teachers a snapshot of each student's achievement in a given area and their learning needs! Much of our time has been devoted to undertaking these tests over the last two weeks, but we also had time for a Mathematics lesson, with a focus on halving.

Religion: These few weeks we have been focusing on Mary in the 4 Gospels. We looked at how Mary was there for Jesus during important events in his life. Mary shows us what it means to have faith and trust in God, and we have been inspired by her courage and kindness and how she is the model of faith, and how her example helps us in our lives today.
