Year 3/4 News

Learning Centre Two
What a jam-packed couple of weeks it has been in LC2. Lots of fun & learning along with exciting celebrations.
Congratulations!
LC2 students & staff would like to congratulate Josh. Last Saturday, Josh married the love of his life, Rebecca. We wish them every happiness as they start the next stage of their life together.
Multicultural Day
The Year 3s and 4s celebrated Multicultural Day with pride and enthusiasm! Students came dressed in their traditional clothing from their countries of heritage and proudly took part in a parade to showcase their beautiful outfits. Together, we shared the message that “We are one, but we are many.” Throughout the day, Year 3 and 4 students participated in learning rotations exploring the cultures of Italy, Africa, and Australia, celebrating how our world and school community is so wonderfully diverse. It was a fantastic day of learning, celebration, and unity!
Incursion with Wild Action Zoo
The Year 3 and 4s had an amazing experience during the Wild Action Zoo incursion! We got up close with some incredible Australian animals, including pythons, echidnas, sugar gliders, turtles, and blue-tongue lizards. Everyone was excited to learn interesting facts about each creature and even had the chance to hold or gently touch some of them! It was a fantastic hands-on way to learn about wildlife and the importance of caring for our native animals.
Religion
Year 3
In Religion, Year 3 students have been continuing to explore the beatitudes and how Mary has modelled many of these throughout her life. The students have worked on understanding the meaning behind the beatitudes and responded to them in respect to Mary’s life and their own lives. The students have also begun their lessons about Advent and have been learning about the meaning of Advent in the Catholic Faith.
Year 4
In Religion, Year 4 students have been deepening their understanding of the Rosary and how it is centred on the life and teachings of Jesus. They have been exploring the Luminous and Glorious Mysteries, reflecting on the key events these represent and how they help us grow in faith. Year 4 students practised summarising a mystery of the Rosary, wrote personal reflections on its meaning, and even created their own prayers and reflections inspired by Scripture. Through these activities, the Year 4s have developed a richer appreciation of how the Rosary invites us to reflect on the significant moments in Jesus’ life.
Literacy
Year 3
In Literacy, Year 3 students have been continuing to read through Matilda and have just begun reading about Matilda’s special power. Students have also been continuing to practice using correct punctuation and grammar in their sentences. They have also been learning about different types of sentences, how to recognise them and how to use them correctly. They have been trying to apply this knowledge to their writing as they work through writing different narratives.
Year 4
In Literacy, the Year 4 students have continued their novel study, 'The Wild Robot', with enthusiasm and high engagement. As we continue following the story of Roz, a robot who has washed ashore on an island and has taken on the role as mother to a baby goose, the Year 4s are learning key vocabulary words, practising their sentence-level writing and creating persuasive letters. We can’t wait to see how Roz’s story continues!
Mathematics
Year 3
In Numeracy, Year 3 students have started learning about mass and capacity. They have been learning the difference between weight and mass and some ways we can measure mass. This has involved estimating and using scaled measurement tools to record mass in metric units. The students will continue to explore measuring as they work on capacity in the following weeks
Year 4
The Year 4 students have wrapped up their Probability unit by exploring the idea of chance through hands-on experiments. They recorded the outcomes of dice rolls and compared results from an exciting 100-round Rock, Paper, Scissors challenge to see how predictions match real results!
We’ve now moved on to our new topic on 2D and 3D shapes. The Year 4’s are learning to identify two-dimensional shapes on three-dimensional objects, as well as name, describe, sort, and compare 3D shapes based on their properties. This unit is helping us to explore the connection between the shapes around us!
Inquiry
In Inquiry, Year 3 and 4 students have been investigating the features and habitats of the local wildlife, beginning with investigating the various habitats in Australia and the animals that live there. Each student chose an animal to research, exploring where it lives, what it needs to survive, and how its external features help it thrive in its environment. The students have developed a greater understanding of how animals are uniquely adapted to their habitats and the importance of protecting local ecosystems.
Wellbeing
In Wellbeing, students have been exploring what it means to show resilience by recognising that we can learn and grow from our mistakes. They reflected on challenges they’ve faced and discussed strategies for bouncing back when things don’t go as planned.
Students also began learning about rights and how all children have rights. Students explored what they are, where they come from, why they matter and how they are upheld by people. They sorted different rights from the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child into categories of safety, participation and knowledge. They then designed a poster showcasing their understanding, using the prompt “All children at school have the right to...”.
Sun Smart
It's that time of year again when all students must wear a hat when outside. It is strongly suggested that the hat be a bucket style, as this gives the best protection. School hats are available from the uniform shop. Please make sure your child's hat has their name on it. Students who do not have a hat will be asked to stay in the shade, because we do have...
NO HAT, NO PLAY
Lost Property
We still have a HUGE container of lost property in LC2, and it is now overflowing. Some pieces of uniform look brand new...but have NO names on them. If your child is missing a jumper or jacket, PLEASE come into LC2 and search through the tub.
Reminders
- Students bring their laptops and headphones to school each day. Please make sure these are fully charged.
- Please make sure that ALL your children's belongings (clothes, lunch boxes, drink bottles, stationery, etc.) are clearly labelled with your child's name. Labelled property can be easily returned to its owner.
