“Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for men.” — Colossians 3:23
This week is PE Week and one highly anticipated date on the calendar each year is the Staff vs Year 6 netball game. Amongst the clapping, cheering and chanting, there’s a deeper message we can take away from this experience.
When you step onto the court, you bring more than your athletic ability; you bring the character of Christ. How you treat teammates, how you respond to the umpire’s call, how you handle both victory and defeat—these are acts of testimony. In a world that prizes performance, you have the chance to show grace.
Netball teaches discipline, teamwork and trust. Each position relies on the others—just as the body of Christ relies on every part doing its work (1 Corinthians 12:12–27). You learn to communicate clearly, to forgive quickly, to keep your eyes lifted even when the game gets tough. These are not just sporting skills; they’re spiritual lessons.
So, next time you lace up your shoes and take your place on the court (or, your place is the throws of life), pause and whisper a prayer: “Lord, help me to play with integrity, with joy, and with love. May my actions reflect You, whether I win or lose.”
Because when your focus is on Him, every pass, every goal and every breath becomes an offering of praise.
