Grade 4/5

The last two weeks have been very productive in the Year 4/5 classroom. Students have demonstrated resilience by completing several assessments designed to inform their end-of-year reports. These evaluations have covered reading, writing, and mathematics skills. Testing will conclude next week. Congratulations to all students for their dedication and perseverance throughout this assessment period!
In our English lessons, students have been actively reading our class novel, The Wild Robot. I am truly impressed by their enthusiasm to read aloud, and it's exciting to observe their improvement in reading skills. They have also engaged in discussions about the book, which help them expand their vocabulary and comprehension. Alongside responding to the novel, we are working on sentence-level writing. We've enjoyed using humorous prompts to spark creativity and learning.
In Mathematics, students have enjoyed learning about three-dimensional shapes. They have practiced identifying and describing these shapes and especially liked making their own three-dimensional animals and objects from nets. Students have also been introduced to BODMAS, which helps determine the correct order of operations. They have felt proud when they solved problems correctly.
In the Sport and Wellbeing program, students were provided with the opportunity to design activities for an entire class circuit. The range of activities included dance, tennis, football (kick to kick), skipping, and running. It was excellent to observe all students actively increasing their heart rates and participating enthusiastically.
