Steven Tynan (MOC1983) Blue Ribbon Memorial Match

Under perfect spring skies, Mazenod’s Oblate Cricket Squad faced off against Victoria Police in the annual Steven Tynan Blue Ribbon Memorial Match, held on Wednesday 29 October.

Played in honour of Constable Steven Tynan (MOC1983) and his colleague Constable Damian Eyre, the day serves as a meaningful tribute to their service and sacrifice while celebrating the strong bond between Mazenod College and Victoria Police.

Victoria Police batted first, posting a formidable total of 5/224 after some confident hitting and disciplined partnerships. Despite a few early breakthroughs from Mazenod’s bowlers, including wickets to Sam Duckett, Asher Vaughan, Carl Di Ciero and Pravin Niranjan, the visitors built a strong platform heading into the second innings.

Chasing a challenging target, Mazenod’s top order faced early setbacks but showed great resilience through Will Dresser (Year 9), who led the fightback with a composed 60, and Seth Fernando (Year 7), who remained unbeaten on 40*. Mazenod finished on 5/127, demonstrating great spirit and sportsmanship throughout the match.

After the game, Sue Fitzgerald, Steven’s sister, presented the shield to the Victoria Police team and expressed her gratitude for the respectful and heartfelt tribute to her brother. Sue also presented the Man of the Match Medal to Will Dresser for his outstanding innings and leadership at the crease.

The day was a fitting celebration of community, respect, and remembrance — honouring Steven’s legacy while fostering the spirit of competition and camaraderie that defines this annual event.
