2025 Night of Excellence
The 2025 Night of Excellence was held on Monday October 17, commencing at 7.00pm at Robert Blackwood Hall, Monash University, where we celebrated the accomplishments of many students in Year 7-11.
The evening brought together families, staff and students to celebrate the many ways Mazenod men strive for excellence — in academics, leadership, co-curricular pursuits, faith and community life.
The program featured outstanding musical performances and inspiring addresses from Dr Eugene Fredericks, Chair of the College Advisory Council, and Eden Foster MP, Member for Mulgrave, both of whom reflected on the importance of purpose, perseverance and service.
A key theme from the Strategic Plan is ‘Humble Leaders Dedicated to making a difference’. We want to produce graduates characterised by warmth, empathy and compassion, where boys feel safe to be authentic, express vulnerability and explore what it means to be a man. We were delighted to congratulate the Year 8, 9 & 10 students who have been elected to College SRC Leadership positions for 2026. This achievement reflects the collective efforts of all staff who have supported and inspired these students throughout their journey.
There is much more to education than the pursuit of academic prowess. One of the strong traditions of the College is the attempt to provide a truly holistic education, one which fosters not only academic growth, but also physical and social development, emotional well-being and spiritual growth, that is, the growth of the whole person. On Monday night we celebrated this across all year levels and all facets of College life.
Alumni Awards Dinner
On Friday 24 October, the Mazenod community gathered at Kooyong Lawn Tennis Club for the inaugural Mazenod Alumni Awards Dinner, a landmark evening celebrating service, leadership and lifelong connection.
Hosted by renowned broadcaster and Old Collegian Gerard Whateley (MOC1992), the event recognised the extraordinary individuals whose contributions have shaped both Mazenod College and the wider community.
Recipients of the Burning Flame Award, Mazenod’s highest honour, were Fr Patrick Moroney OMI, Fr Kevin Davine OMI, Mr Peter Le Grand, Professor Oscar Moze (MOC1972), George Calombaris (MOC1996), Philip Ryan (MOC1988), Gerard Whateley (MOC1992) and the late Steven Tynan (MOC1983). Each recipient embodies the College’s motto, Leave Nothing Undared for the Kingdom of God, through their lasting impact on faith, leadership, service and excellence.
The evening also acknowledged Cameron Falloon (MOC1991) as the first recipient of the Leave to Serve Award, recognising a Mazenod alumnus who has demonstrated the transformative impact of a Mazenod education through meaningful action.
The program featured live music from the Coghlan Quartet and a captivating performance by ARIA Award-winning artist Gary Pinto (MOC1992), whose music beautifully complemented the night’s spirit of reflection and celebration.
Supported by the Mazenod Old Collegians’ Association (MOCA) and the Mazenod Foundation, the dinner brought together alumni, staff, parents and friends of Mazenod in a joyful celebration of community and connection.
As Mazenod looks ahead to its Diamond Jubilee in 2027, this event stands as a proud reflection of the College’s enduring spirit—one that continues to inspire generations of Mazenod men to serve, lead and leave nothing undared.
Student Attendance
It is imperative parents and carers are aware of mandatory policies regarding student attendance. We are asking parents and carers to log onto MAZCOM and review the attendance policy, guidelines, and procedures (see links below).
I would like to draw your attention to some elements of the Attendance Procedures for ongoing attention:
Notification of a planned absence can be made by completing an Application for Leave, located on MazCom, on both the Junior and Senior Tiles. This form needs to be signed by the Parent / Carer and emailed to the relevant Dean of School for approval.
Parents/guardians/carers are required to notify the school by phone on 9560 0911 or using the Absentee button on the MAZCOM App., between 8.00 am and 9.00am of the reason for any absence from school on the day of absence.
An SMS is sent out if the student is marked absent for the morning Pastoral Period. Students arriving before 8:50am are expected to have their attendance recorded by their Pastoral Teacher. Any student arriving after 8:50am should sign in at Student Counter to receive their late sign in pass. Parents/Carers are also expected to notify the school if their son is going to arrive late.
If a student is absent without explanation, the school will contact the parent/guardian/carer for an explanation as soon as possible on the day of absence by the Attendance Officer in the first instance and then by the Administrative Assistant to Deputy Principal (Students).
