A note from Mr Jackson

Fair Energy Growing

The School Fair continues to see people rummaging through bags or books, trampling through the neighbourhood to deliver pamphlets, or calculating the number of sausages required to feed the masses.  We’re all thankful for the many hands of volunteers who are contributing to make the most of the day. Please consider inviting friends and families to join in this wonderful celebration of community.

New Frogmouth Emerges

Big news this week. Our nesting tawny frogmouth are proud parents! With the right position under the large iron bark outside Chandler Hall you just may catch a glimpse of the newest member of the Rosanna Primary community. We look forward to watching it fledge and venturing to nearby branches as it learns to fly.

3/4 and 5/6 ‘Living and Growing’ Workshops

Parent Workshop - Wednesday 5 November & Student Workshops - From Wednesday 12 November

Thanks to parents who joined in a parent webinar exploring the upcoming ‘Living and Growing’ sessions in Years 3/4 and 5/6. The webinar noted the importance of age-appropriate, accurate sexual education for children, emphasising the critical role of parents in supporting their children's understanding of body changes, consent, and online safety. Parents were encouraged to have open, honest conversations with their children. The presentation addressed challenges like sexual content online and the importance of providing children with accurate information from trusted sources. The approach used will be inclusive, non-judgmental, and based on the Victorian curriculum.

The upcoming ‘Living and Growing’ student sessions covers reproductive anatomy, body safety, puberty changes, and consent. Parents can provide consent and payment on Qkr! by Monday to be a part of this important experience for students. If you have any questions about the sessions please speak with Michael Taylor or myself.

Empathy Day

Thursday 6 November

The school celebrated Empathy Day today. Lead by a student team at Thornbury High in conjunction with the Junior School Council, the day focussed our attention beyond the school fences. It was an opportunity to raise money for a local charity, supporting families struggling with housing by inviting students to contribute a gold coin. A small group of students from Thornbury High led classes in the 3/4 Learning Area and the 4/5/6 Learning Area in lessons focussed on the importance of empathy.

Maths Takes the Spotlight  in 5/6 Learning Area

Thursday 6 November

It was great to have Viewbank College come in and run a workshop for a small group of students today. This extension opportunity will not only build transitionary links for our students as they prepare for high school, but also a deeper dive into maths. Some of our staff will be meeting with teachers from the college to collaborate on shared understandings of maths between primary and secondary schools.

Assembly Outside This Week

Friday 7 November

Last week we were eager to host the school assembly outside. The TheirCare team transformed the hall for their Halloween afternoon. Alas, the rain beat us and we were forced to cancel our outdoor assembly. This week, we will have a go again! With a range of awards to be presented, the assembly will begin at about 2:40pm.

Working Bee Invitation

This Sunday 9 November

With the School Spring Fair just around the corner, we are eager to ensure our grounds and spaces are neat and tidy. Come along between 9am and 12 noon to lend a hand, or two! Wear some solid sturdy shoes and bring along your gloves. We’ll be blowing the yard, dressing up the art room ready for the art show at the fair, shifting mulch and much more. Make sure you sign in at the staffroom. Your support in preparations are gratefully accepted.

2026 Prep Orientation 3

On next Thursday, we will have our third orientation. Students again will have the opportunity to meet the faces and visit the places that will be formative to their 2026 experience. Parents again will explore the ins and outs of life at the school.
