The Moorabbin Primary School Community touch the land and think of the Bunurong People and surrounding Clans of the Kulin Nation who cared for the land before us.

We share our gratitude to their Elders past, present and emerging.

As we touch this land, we promise to treasure it, taking care of all its people,

animals, plants and waterways.

We at Moorabbin Primary School appreciate this land.

Dear Families and Carers of Moorabbin Primary School,

I hope you all enjoyed the long weekend and utilised the extra time you had together. We are at the halfway point of this term and will be at the end of the year before we know it. The remainder of 2025 is going to be very busy and will create a multitude of positive memories. Today’s edition is just a brief one due to the short week.

GRANDPARENTS’ DAY CELEBRATION

What a truly special afternoon we had Thursday afternoon in our school and classrooms as we shared celebrating Grandparents’ Day! It was wonderful to welcome so many grandparents and special friends into our school to spend time with their grandchildren and see the amazing learning taking place in classrooms. The turnout was incredible, with our gym and learning spaces filled with smiles, laughter, and heartfelt conversations. It was a joy to see the pride on our students’ faces as they showed their loved ones their work and shared a glimpse of their daily school life.

The event created a beautiful sense of community and connection across generations. The excitement from both students and grandparents was infectious — from classroom visits and shared activities to afternoon tea and photos together, every moment was filled with warmth and appreciation. We are so grateful to everyone who attended and helped make the day such a success, and we extend a big thank you to our staff for their preparation and care in hosting such a memorable celebration.

REMEMBRANCE DAY NEXT

TUESDAY 11TH NOVEMBER 2025

This day has special significance as we recall, above all days, the women and men who, through personal sacrifices, contributed to the evolution and the identity of this country. We will be honouring this Remembrance Day with special class activities and observing a minute of silence just before the children go out to their recess break on Tuesday 11th November. Our school captains will address the whole school and talk about what the day means at our assembly Thursday 13th in the gym from 3.00-3.30pm., all parents and friends are welcome to attend our assemblies.

Commemorative Poppies are now available for sale from our SRC student Reps before school as well as from the office. All proceeds from the sale of Poppies goes towards the Returned and Services League of Australia.

2026 ENROLMENTS

Thank you to all the families who have already submitted their enrolment forms! We encourage our 2026 Foundation families to visit the office to complete the enrolment process by filling out the school enrolment form and providing evidence of their child's date of birth and immunisation record. To assist with planning, we kindly request that parents finalise their enrolments as soon as possible. This is crucial as we need to know if the school requires further staff for classrooms and programs. If you have any questions or need clarification regarding the enrolment process, please contact the office.

2025 STUDENT EXITS

We ask that you let us know if you are moving or have enrolled in another school in 2026. We require this information as soon as possible to establish grade structures for the start of the new school year. If your child is currently in Foundation - Year 5 and will not be at Moorabbin Primary School in 2026. Please be aware that your children and their friends so share this information with their teachers and friends as they are feeling a bit unsettled and or excited about a potential move.

Please notify Moorabbin.ps@education.vic.gov.au in writing as soon as possible.

TRANSITION TO 2026

It's that time of the year when our staff start preparing and organising class placements for 2026. This process is crucial as we want to ensure that each student is in an environment that supports their learning needs.

We start preparing class placements for next year looking at student groupings, their social, emotional and academic abilities and we know parents naturally want the best learning environment for their children. Our teachers and leadership team spend a great deal of time carefully considering each child’s needs to create balanced and supportive classes. We ask that families trust our professional judgment and respect the school’s decisions. Every placement is made with the goal of giving all students the best opportunity to learn, grow, and enjoy a positive start to the new school year.

Here are the criteria we consider when establishing classes:

  • The children's individual learning capabilities

  • The known social, emotional, and physical stages of the individual child

  • Friendship groupings, ensuring that each student is placed with at least one friend from their social circle

  • Balancing the number of males and females in each class

  • Addressing the needs of English as an additional language learners and other special needs

  • Creating classes with similar educational and behavioural profiles

  • Anticipating growth in class numbers

  • Ensuring compatibility of sub-groupings

  • Considering the students' ability to cope with change.
