Cricket

The First XI have continued their winning ways defeating Oakhill College in a very close contest. Oakhill were very determined and put up a strong fight in a match that was interrupted by the rain. Shout out to the Scullion brothers with Aidan scoring 38 runs and Ryan bowling what has been described as his best spell of the season finishing with 3-17.

The Second XI came off second best against a very formidable Scots All Saints College side, well done to Kian White who was a standout with a very well earned 17 runs in tough conditions. It was a hard day in the office for SPC in Thunder League Cricket with five out of six teams going down and the 16 Black match being cancelled due to the rain. Shout out to Daniel Garrett and Angus Wolfenden, who both scored 19 runs for the 16 Gold team, which unfortunately was not enough on the day. Best of luck to all our Cricketers this weekend!

Basketball

The First V were pumped up and ready to go after a huge Round 1 victory, as we welcomed one of the best basketball schools in Sydney, St Augustine’s College. Both teams came out firing but St Augustine’s showed their class early, yet a lot of resilience, toughness and skill was demonstrated by the First V who played themselves back into the game by narrowly winning the second and third quarter, but all their best efforts were not enough as St Augustine’s showed great composure and skill to pull away and win 82 to 62. While losses always hurt, especially at home, but the promising signs far outweigh any negatives as the First V continue to develop.

Golf

The SPC Golf team had a fantastic day on Saturday with two wins, one draw and one loss against a very strong Scots College. Antoine Ghosn had a hard-fought victory and was described as a joy to watch, Jack McDonald had another win making him undefeated with his new clubs, Max went down in a very tight contest and Mateo showed composure well beyond his years to stay in a very good contest and pick up a draw. Best of luck this week against St Ignatius’ Riverview!

Baseball

The tough start to the season for the First IX continued with a close loss to Thornleigh/Rangers. There were plenty of positives from the game with the First IX with huge fight shown at the plate collecting nine hits and showing patience and composure. Lucas Burnicle was a standout with three from three clean hits setting the tone for his team’s offensive efforts.

Well done to the U14 team who picked up a draw against a very strong Thornleigh outfit. This is a demonstration of the hard work put in from players and coaches alike many of these young men are in their first season of Baseball.
