Today, the college proudly welcomed more than 100 new Year 5 and Year 6 students for their Transition Day. The students took part in a range of activities designed to help them get to know their new school and buddies. Commitment to Summer Sport

As we move into Round 3 of the summer sport season, I want to take a moment to acknowledge the importance of commitment from both players and families. When students elect to participate in the Summer Sport Program, we expect a full-season commitment. This ensures that teams can be competitive, enjoy their games, and develop as athletes.

In just the first two rounds, we’ve had several students miss fixtures for various reasons. While illness, injury, and unforeseen family events are understandable, planned absences such as holidays are not considered valid reasons to miss games. Every absence affects the team’s ability to perform and enjoy the game. Please respect the impact your son’s attendance has on his teammates.

I especially want to commend the B1, B2, C1, and C2 Touch Football teams, who played short last week but represented SPX with outstanding resilience, positivity, and passion. Their attitude was a credit to the school. A sincere thank you also to the parents who stepped in to help manage teams on the day, your support is deeply appreciated.

I always aim to keep our communication positive, but it’s important to acknowledge that inconsistent attendance is affecting the enjoyment and development of many of our athletes. Let’s work together to ensure our teams are supported and our players are given the best chance to thrive.

A heartfelt thank you to the students and families who consistently show up each week, ready to play, cheer, and support our sport program. Your commitment and enthusiasm are the backbone of our success, and it’s wonderful to see the strong community spirit that surrounds SPX sport.

Swim Squad Update

Our Term 4 Swim Program is underway, and it’s been fantastic to see the students in action. We’d love to see even more students join us next week it’s a great opportunity to build fitness, technique, and team spirit.

Sessions are Tuesday and Wednesday at Fitness First Chatswood: 7:00 am - 8:00 am. Please see previous email for more information.

We’ve also been invited to attend the Knox Grammar Invitational Swim Meet on Wednesday 5 November. All current SPX Swim Squad members will receive an invitation this week. It promises to be a great event and a chance to represent SPX in a competitive and supportive environment.

Student Success

NSWPSSA Athletics

We’re thrilled to share some outstanding news from the NSWPSSA Athletics Championships!

Jack Cross and Tommy Kay have both qualified for the National Athletics Championships later this year in Canberra, a huge achievement and a proud moment for the SPX community.

  • Jack placed 3rd in Long Jump, securing his spot at Nationals. He also ran an impressive 13.7 seconds in the 100m, narrowly missing out on a place in the final.

  • Tommy finished 3rd in Shot Put, earning his Nationals qualification. He placed 4th in Discus, missing the podium by less than a metre.

Both boys have shown incredible determination and skill throughout their Athletics season. We congratulate them on their success and wish them all the best as they prepare to represent SPX on the national stage in Canberra.

Softball

Our team had a fantastic win this week with strong teamwork and energy throughout the game. Everyone showed great fielding skills, stopping balls and making key plays.

It was great to see everyone communicating well and supporting each other on the field. The team’s positive attitude and effort made this one of our best games yet.

Round 2 Recap

Another fantastic weekend of tennis from our Pius students! A huge congratulations to Team 9 for their impressive 3-set victory - a great display of resilience and teamwork. Well done to Ethan Heng and Connor Huynh for their outstanding performance and sportsmanship throughout the match!

Absences

Thank you to all parents who have been proactive in logging absences and notifying me ahead of game day. This helps us ensure that substitute players can be arranged in time to support each team. Please continue this practice and remember to log the absence in Clipboard after notifying me.

Submitting Scores

All players must report scores immediately after each match to ensure accurate entry into Xpoint. Please double-check that scores are correct and signed by both home and away team members.

Fingers crossed for sunshine this weekend as we head into Round 3!
