Christmas Carols 🎄🎅🏼🎁🎶

It’s hard to believe, but it is beginning to sound a lot like Christmas in the Performing Arts room! This week, alongside the learning below, classes are continuing to learn their carols and get into the festive spirit. The event will take place on Wednesday, December 3rd, from 5PM. Information was emailed to families last week and is also included in the Wonga Weekly here.
The focus of our rehearsals this week will be on practising the actions for the year level Christmas Carols songs.
PREP
Prep students are exploring time and rhythm in dance. They’ll practise moving to a steady beat, experimenting with faster and slower tempos, and trying out simple rhythmic patterns with their bodies. Students will also continue to explore levels and pathways.
Grade 1/2
Students will warm up with movement games before continuing their dance unit. This week they’ll finish learning the Cha Cha Slide, putting the steps together with confidence. If time allows, they will begin exploring another classic dance craze — the Nutbush. Alongside these routines, students will keep developing their skills in working with and alongside others, responding to a partner’s movements and practising teamwork in dance.
GRADE 3/4
Students will complete their final rehearsals for Night at the Museum. Working collaboratively, they’ll polish their character choices and refine the way they use the performance space. The emphasis this week is on clear storytelling and supporting their group to bring their scene to life for the class audience.
GRADE 5
Students will continue building their ukulele playing skills. After revisiting the C, A minor, and F chords, they’ll practise blending these into simple songs. This week, they’ll continue to extend their chord knowledge by working with G and G7, focusing on smooth transitions and playing with a steady rhythm as they continue to accompany short pieces.
GRADE 6
Grade 6 students are moving ahead with their creative projects. After pitching their ideas, they are now deep in the process — rehearsing, composing, designing, and experimenting as they shape their final pieces. This week is about developing detail, refining choices, and building toward a polished performance or product later in the term.
CHRISTMAS CAROLS
🏊Swimming Begins This Week
A reminder that swimming lessons commence this week for our Grade 1 and 2 students at Aquahub Croydon. We are looking forward to a fantastic week of building water safety skills, confidence, and enjoyment in the pool.
Next week, it will be the turn of our Prep, Year 3, and Year 4 students to take part in the program.
🏐 Prep
This week in PE, our Prep students will be developing their kicking technique. They will learn how to correctly place their non-kicking foot, make contact with the ball using the instep, and follow through with balance. Through fun games and activities, students will continue to build their coordination, confidence, and ball control.
⚾ Grades 1 & 2
Students in Grades 1 and 2 will be continuing to learn how to strike a ball using a rounders bat. They will practise holding the bat correctly, tracking the ball with their eyes, and striking with good timing and control. Small-group activities will support teamwork, cooperation, and ongoing skill development.
🏑 Grades 3 & 4
Unfortunately rain and work on the basketball court interrupted the Grade 3 and 4 students' start to their hockey unit. This week, they will learn how to control the ball, dribble, and strike using correct technique. Lessons will include skill stations and mini-games that build confidence with the stick and ball while promoting safe and fair play.
🏒 Grades 5 & 6
Unfortunately rain and work on the basketball court interrupted the Grade 5 and 6 students' start to their hockey unit. This week’s focus is on ball control, accurate hitting, and understanding basic game strategies. As the unit progresses, students will participate in small-sided games to strengthen their tactical thinking, teamwork, and on-field decision-making.
Upcoming Christmas Decoration Market Stall!
Over the next few weeks, students in Prep-Grade 4 will be making a variety of Christmas decorations to be sold under the oak tree at a small Christmas Market Stall. The Art Captains will be pricing, displaying and selling the decorations before school and during recess and lunchtimes during week 10. We look forward to raising some money for our new kiln for the Art room and sharing the Christmas spirit with our school community!
