Ā
š± 2026 LEADERS
We were so incredibly proud of the speeches that were prepared and presented by our Grade Five students. As the votes are tallied, successful students will be notified by the end of this week as to who has been successful in moving onto the next round, which is interviews for school captain and ambassador roles. After these roles have been allocated, the process for students who wish to apply for specialist leadership roles will begin.
Ā
š± ASSESSMENTĀ
We are super busy with assessments again this week! Students will continue working through their end-of-year assessments in preparation for reporting. These assessments help us gather an accurate picture of each studentās learning, growth and progress across 2025.
Ā
Throughout the week, students will be completing their PAT assessments in Reading, Spelling, Vocabulary and Mathematics. They will also take part in Writing moderation tasks. The information gathered supports teachers in celebrating learning successes and planning future teaching focuses for each student.
Ā
š± LITERACY - READING & WRITING Ā
This week, our Grade 5 and 6 students are continuing their exploration of advertising and media techniques. After analysing how creators use elements such as music, slogans, emotional appeal, endorsements, colour, imagery and statistics to influence audiences, students are now applying this understanding in a new context.
Ā
Building on their podcasting skills, students are moving into recording and producing their own short documentaries. They will be planning storyboards, crafting clear narration, and selecting visuals that best support their ideas. Working as groups, or individually, students will draw on what theyāve learned about audience engagement to incorporate purposeful transitions, voice-over techniques, and effective camera shots. This project also provides an opportunity for students to develop communication, collaboration and digital production skills as they work towards creating a polished and informative final documentary.
Ā
What you can do at home:Ā
To build on what students are learning at school, families can support their childās understanding of documentaries and media techniques in simple, meaningful ways:
Ā
š± NUMERACY
This week in Mathematics, our Grade 5 students are extending their skills in algebraic thinking.Students are exploring how patterns work, experimenting with ways to represent unknown numbers using letters and symbols, and practising how to balance and solve simple equations. These concepts are being introduced through hands-on tasks and real-world examples to help students see how algebra connects to everyday problem-solving.
Ā
Our Grade 6 students are focusing on strengthening their overall mathematical knowledge as they get ready for their final assessments. They are revisiting key areas of the curriculum through practical activities, applying a range of strategies to different types of problems, and working to refine their accuracy and confidence. This revision supports students in demonstrating the depth of their learning across the year.

What you can do at home:
Ā
š± CBL
As part of our CBL unit, students have been working to design a digital solution that addresses a need within the Wonga Park Primary School community. They have now moved beyond the brainstorming phase and are developing clear, purposeful app concepts. Students are refining their ideas, mapping out how each feature will work, and creating visual plans that show the layout, user flow, and functionality of their proposed app.
Ā
With their designs taking shape, students are now shifting their focus to preparing for our upcoming āShark Tank for Appsā event. They will be crafting compelling presentations that clearly explain the problem their app solves, who it is designed for, and why it would be valuable to the WPPS community. This next stage will see students practise persuasive language, develop confident speaking skills, and showcase their creativity, innovation, and critical thinking as they pitch their prototypes to a panel.
Ā
Essential Question:Ā
How do we use coding to solve problems and create solutions in our world?
Ā
Guiding Questions:Ā
Ā
Challenge:
Design an app prototype that solves a problem or improves an experience in our school community.Ā
