Building Awareness: Year 7 & 8 Vaping Education Workshops

As part of our ongoing commitment to health education and student wellbeing, our Year 7 and 8 students have recently taken part in a series of informative sessions exploring the harms associated with vaping. These sessions aimed to raise awareness, challenge common misconceptions, and encourage positive, health-conscious decision-making among our students.

We were delighted to welcome Kristy Puls from the Population Health Team at Echuca Regional Health, who facilitated an engaging and informative Vaping Awareness and Prevention Workshop as part of this important learning journey.

The workshop:

  • Provided up-to-date information on the health risks linked to vaping, including the effects of nicotine, harmful chemicals found in vape products and the impact on adolescent brain and lung development.
  • Highlighted the legal aspects and potential consequences related to vaping.
  • Empowered students by building self-efficacy — helping them develop the knowledge, confidence, and skills needed to make informed choices, resist peer pressure, and take proactive steps to protect their health.

This initiative complements our existing health curriculum and reinforces our school’s commitment to supporting safe, healthy choices for all students. We view health education as a partnership between school and home, and encourage parents and carers to continue these important conversations with their children after the session.

Year 10 Commerce students take on the ASX Schools Sharemarket Game

Our Year 10 Commerce students recently took part in the ASX Schools Sharemarket Game, a national competition that gives students the chance to experience the excitement of investing in the sharemarket — without spending a cent!

Each student started with a virtual $50,000 to invest in real companies listed on the ASX, using live market data. Over several weeks, they tracked their portfolios, analysed trends, and made decisions about when to buy and sell shares — just like real investors.

The game was a fantastic way for students to build their financial literacy, problem-solving, and decision-making skills, while gaining a better understanding of how the sharemarket and the wider economy work.

A huge congratulations to Matilda Medland, who achieved an outstanding 78th place in the competition out of almost 18,000 participants from across Australia — an incredible achievement!

Well done to all our Year 10 Commerce students for getting involved with such enthusiasm. The experience has given them valuable insight into how businesses and financial markets operate in the real world.

Year 10 Visual Arts: Celebrating Still Life and the Vanitas Tradition

This term, Year 10 Visual Arts students have explored the Vanitas tradition — a style of still-life painting from 16th- and 17th-century Europe that reflects on beauty, time and the fleeting nature of life.

Students began by researching historical examples before carefully arranging their own 3D still-life compositions using symbolic objects such as fruit, flowers, candles and books. Each arrangement was photographed and used as inspiration for a final oil painting, combining research, creativity and technical skill.

The Visual Arts staff are incredibly proud of the dedication and imagination shown by the Year 10 cohort. Their completed works will be displayed later this term, showcasing a wonderful celebration of artistic growth, creativity, and thoughtful storytelling through art.

PDHPE Faculty Kicks Off Term with Camps, Challenges and Milestones

It has been a busy and exciting start to the term for the PDHPE faculty, with multiple camps and milestones taking place.

Our Year 9 PASS students completed two incredible camps to Mathoura, Barmah, and back — showcasing outstanding resilience and positive attitudes. The program included an 80km bike ride and two canoeing days covering over 35km each, along with students organising their own meal plans, cooking, tent setup and camp duties. Every student did a wonderful job and thoroughly enjoyed exploring our beautiful bushland and the Murray River.

Meanwhile, the Year 8 Out and About classes had their own adventure, spending a night at Gunbower Estate. Students canoed the Gunbower Creek, rode along its banks, fished and took part in a range of teamwork and initiative challenges. They also prepared and cooked their own meals, with some creative dishes making an appearance!

To top off a huge start to the term, our HSC PDHPE students completed their final exam last Friday, marking the pinnacle of their journey through Moama Anglican Grammar. This exam also represents the final year of PDHPE under its current name, as the HSC course transitions to Health and Movement Science (HMS) from next year.

We wish all our senior students the very best in their future pursuits and congratulate them on their hard work and dedication.

A huge thank you goes to all the staff involved in planning and attending these camps and supporting our senior students. Your time, effort, and enthusiasm make these valuable learning experiences possible for our students.
