As parents, it can often feel challenging to keep up with the role social media plays in our children’s lives. While it can be a space for connection and creativity, it can also impact young people’s mental health and self-esteem.
To help families navigate this, a new initiative called ScrollSafe has been developed in partnership with Orygen, Australia’s Centre of Excellence in Youth Mental Health. Scrollsafe provides practical, evidence-based resources to help young people, families, and schools understand the effects of social mental and develop healthy digital habits.
How ScrollSafe Can Help Your Child:
ScrollSafe encourages students to reflect on their online use, set boundaries around screen time, and learn how to recognise when social media may be affecting their mood or wellbeing.
The resources include:
A student booklet and take-home flyer that shares tips for creating positive online habits and managing digital stress.
Short videos and fact sheets for parents and young people, explaining the impact of social mental on mental health and how to have open conversations about it.
Practical tools thar support schools to promote digital wellbeing across the community.
These resources aim to empower young people to use social media safety, and with confidence, while giving parents simple and supportive ways to start conversations at home.
ScollSafe also supports schools in meeting the Child Safe Standards, ensuring students are empowered to have a voice, families are involved in promoting child wellbeing, and online environments are as safe as possible.

By working together at home and at school, we can help young people build healthier, safter and more balanced relationships with technology.
