Important Update for 2026: E-Bikes and E-Scooters

As we wrap up the 2025 school year, I want to share an important change coming into effect from the start of 2026. After careful consideration, and following consultation, including our School Council, e-bikes and e-scooters will no longer be permitted on school grounds or in the bike shed from next year.

This decision has been driven by growing safety concerns. Across Victoria and nationally, there has been a sharp increase in serious injuries and several fatalities involving young people using e-mobility devices. Many of the incidents relate to modified or non-compliant devices, and schools are not equipped to assess the safety or legality of each model.

As a result, many Victorian schools have already moved to restrict or ban these devices, and our approach aligns with that broader direction.

We have also received reports from local shops and community members about unsafe riding and inappropriate behaviour by some students on these devices while wearing school uniform. Although these incidents occur offsite, they impact our community.

To support a safe and respectful environment, any e-bike or e-scooter found on school grounds in 2026 will be confiscated and must be collected by a parent or carer, with school consequences to follow in line with our expectations, where deemed necessary.

We understand this change may require adjustments for some families, which is why we are communicating it now. Students are encouraged to explore alternative travel options such as walking, public transport, or traditional bicycles.

Our priority is simple: the safety and wellbeing of our young people. Thank you for your support as we take this proactive step for our community.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact the school.

Website Collaboration Opportunity

‘Dear Homestead Community,

The Year 10 Visual Communication Design and Digital Technologies classes of 2026 are looking to collaborate with local small businesses. We are seeking four businesses interested in having a custom website designed and developed by our students.

Throughout this project, you will work closely with students and their teachers to create a functional, visually engaging website tailored to the needs of your business.

If you would like to be involved or learn more, we would love to hear from you.

Please send and email to jack.fillmore@education.vic.gov.au if you are interested’

Thanks

Jack (Arts and Technology Domain Leader)
