Term 4
The last few weeks have flown past so quickly! I hope that you all enjoyed the long weekend and its been nice to see some of the sunny days that we have been having – let’s hope they continue!
Year 12s Giving Back!
Congratulations to the Year 12 students who have been working hard during their final VPC Personal Development Skills Unit, Giving Back. The students worked together on a project to revitalise the Secondary 11/12 Courtyard.
This week we had the official opening of the Zen Garden! We had students present information about the project, Matt cut the ribbon to open the garden and the students in the Baking SBAT catered a wonderful afternoon tea of sausage rolls, mini quiches and some sweet treats.
Congratulations Year 12 on a fabulous achievement – you have truly left your mark on Concord School!
Please read below the outline of the project, as shared by students at the opening ceremony.
At the beginning of term 4, the Year 12s had to come up with a ‘Giving Back Project’.
We decided, as a group, that we were going to give back to the future Year 11/12 students – we decided to do this by creating a Zen Garden that would allow future students to have a place to relax, have a quiet time and hang with their friends. To do this we created 3 groups.
The Garden Group were responsible for:
- Cleaning out the original garden
- Remove the weeds and dead plants
- High pressure and clean the ground
- Potting new plants and rearranging the pots
Creating a mosaic table
The IT group were responsible for:
- Ask permission from the principal to go ahead with our project
- Create fliers in Canva and print them
- Create and print order forms
Make Thank You certificates for the Bunnings, Kevin Heinze, Mercuri Garden and Building Supplies
The fundraising Group were responsible for:
- Researched and called businesses for donations
- Collected the donations with Industry Exploration
Held a sausage sizzle to raise money for our project
As you can see there was a lot to do, but we found creating our Zen Garden:
- Exciting
- Interesting
- A lot of work
- It made us feel proud of what we had achieved
- It made us feel good about giving back to our school community
- A sense of maturity organising and planning the sausage sizzle
The best part was our Sausage Sizzle as there was a sense of teamwork, lots of activity and a great sense of achievement. As you might remember, it was raining, and Karyn & Christine spent 2 hours cooking the sausages. GO Karyn and Christine!
On behalf of all the Year 12s, we want to officially welcome you to YOUR new ZEN GARDEN. We hope that you get to enjoy the garden, either by yourself or with your friends and maybe, while you're sitting in the garden and enjoying the space, you will remember the CLASS of 2025!!!
