It was a joy for a group of College music students to commence the term with a concert at the Mount Sturgeon Woolshed, hosted by our good friends, the Australian String Quartet.
Mr Barry Jones AC FAA FAHA FTSE FASSA FACE FRSA, celebrated our contingent of students who joined ASQ Dunkeld Festival attendees from around the country, recognising their curiosity and study of the string quartet as a pillar of the music art form.
Violinist Dale Barltrop and violist Chris Cartlidge acknowledged the relationship with the College over a number of years and expressed their desire to return in the future for more exciting collaborations with our students and staff.
Mr Jones introduced the two works, a premiere performance of String Quartet No.2 by Australian composer Harry Sdraulig and the Quartet in E Flat Major by the lesser known and recognised, but equally talented of the Mendelssohn family, Fanny Mendelssohn Hensel.
The quartet stood to perform, except for the cellist and delivered an inspiring and engaging performance in the old wool room of the still functioning Woolshed, accompanied by fragrance of lanolin and sheep poo.
Following auditions at both campuses in Term One, rehearsals have commenced on Monday and Tuesday afternoons for High School Musical, at the Senior Campus (High School) and during Drama classes at Myrniong for Frozen Jnr.
