Grade 4/5 Art
This term, Grade 4/5 learned about the famous Japanese artist Hokusai. He was mentioned in the class novel we read, called Kensuke’s Kingdom. We re-created one of Hokusai’s most famous artworks, ‘The Great Wave.’ Our focus was on using warm and cool colours, as well as mixing colours, by tinting (adding white) and shading (adding black).
THE SHAKA PROJECT
Lucy Codi-Davis speaking to our elective PE students about mental health apart of the Shaka project
For the month of March Lucy has been hitting the track with mates (new and always) and discussing and sharing our mental health challenges, triumphs, insights and moments on socials to continue to normalise conversations around mental illness.
Lucy's goal is to run and help break the stigma that surrounds mental health conversations.
Lucy is running 100km to fundraise $1000 to help THE SHAKA PROJECT, a mental health organisation which has a focus on men’s mental health. Their message is quite simple, ask your mates, “allgoodbro?”
FOOD FIGHT
On Thursday 21st of March, we ran our Food Fight Fun Run during lunch and period 5. It was an amazing afternoon of sliming teachers, and students and going down the slip and slide. We also had tents set up with snacks and drinks which was proudly sponsored by Bate’s IGA.
The funds are all donated to Food Bank which aims to end hunger in Australia. Food Bank does heavily contribute and provides us the resources for our breakfast club and allows for snacks and foods to be given to students when they are feeling that little bit extra hungry. In total we were able to raise $6,256 and all proceeds will be donated to Food Bank.
At Mortlake College, we would like to thank all the friends and family who donated to this cause, and a big thank you to the junior leaders: Harley Pickford, Miley Brennan, Mikala Madzarevic, and Kara Ledgard who helped organise and plan this event.
THANK-YOU SO MUCH FOR ALL YOUR SUPPORT MORTLAKE
Last term, Mortlake P-12 College raised money for Food Bank Victoria who feed 57,000 people in need every day. Food Bank also helps our school run a breakfast program on Wednesday and Thursday of every week.
We are a small school and a small community but nothing we do is ever small. Thanks to our community’s wonderful support, our students raised a total of
$6469.10
This is phenomenal.
Our leadership ran an amazing Food Fight which started by the students sliming several teachers including Jeffrey Nicl, Tain Selton, Nikki Robertson, Amy Lodge, Michelle Carmody, Rebecca Ledgard, Olivia Campbell and Nathan Jones.
Although the students had a lot of fun doing this, the teachers were able to retaliate as the fun run began – hosing down students with orange juice (orange coloured water), Red Cordial (red coloured water), fruit (water-soaked fruit sponges), slime along with a nice coating of cake flour (coloured powder).
There was initially a nice running track for student to follow but this quickly descended into a massive water fight. Everyone was coloured and drenched from head to toe.
Huge thanks need to go out to all the student leaders and teachers that helped make the event possible and a special thankyou to the cleaners that had to deal with the changerooms after the event.
