Enchanted Realms of Discovery in the Library
This term, the school library has been a vibrant and dynamic learning environment where students have been able to discover, explore and learn in a variety of ways.
Foundation
During a Nick Bland author study, Foundation students have explored the imaginative and humorous world of his picture books. Starting with his newly published titles, ‘How To Hatch A Dragon’ and ‘How To Be Invisible,’ students have discussed and responded to the themes of friendship, imagination, and creativity that are woven throughout these stories.
Year 1/2
This term, Year 1/2 students have been eagerly listening to picture books that explore significant themes such as Anzac Day and Mother's Day. These stories have helped students develop a deeper understanding of the significance of these special days, while also cultivating empathy, respect and a sense of gratitude for the people who play important roles in their lives.
Year 3/4
Year 3/4 students have been learning to navigate the library's management system, Bibliotech, using their skills to locate books on various topics. With guidance, they have been discovering how to search for books by author, title, or subject, and how to use call numbers to find books on shelves. This unit has been designed to help students explore new authors and topics, and ultimately find books that spark their interests and passions!
Year 5/6
Through skill-building activities, Year 5/6 students have been honing their ability to effectively navigate Bibliotech to locate and access a range of fiction and non-fiction books. They have been encouraged to use keywords and filters to narrow down their search and retrieve relevant resources. Over the past few weeks, they have enjoyed sharing their learning through Padlet (digital post it wall).
Our library space continues to transform into a vibrant and inviting hub of learning. Thanks to the fabulous Mrs Szabo, we have been fortunate enough to receive some exciting new pieces of furniture/furnishings! These incredible pieces include a unicorn throne, new ottomans, two luxurious rugs by local Indigenous artist Merryn Apma and some unicorn cushions handmade by our talented art teacher, Mrs Perkins. Mr Hoare is also currently waiting with anticipation for his new zebra chair!
