Neighbouring Dogs
Safety of our school community has always been of utmost priority, and it has been brought to our attention that there have been concerns about neighbouring dogs that are sometimes not properly secured in their yards and protecting their homes, which has been scary for those involved. We wish to thank our community for their help in keeping our students and school safe by alerting us to this issue.
We have spoken with our local councils - City of Salisbury (we sit within South Ward), and City of Tea Tree Gully (we sit along the boundary of Drumminor Ward) - about the most effective and immediate way to deal with any incidents involving dogs and we have been urged to follow these steps:
- City of Salisbury - If the offending dog is wandering at large and/or poses a risk to the public or other animals; please contact Council on (08) 8406 8222 as soon as possible.
- City of Tea Tree Gully - Report the incident to Council immediately on (08) 8397 7313 during office hours, or on (08) 8397 7444 at any time.
When reporting incidents, try and give as much detail as possible, including date, time and exact location of the dog. A description of the dog including if it is wearing a collar/name tag, breed, colour and markings. If possible and safe to do so, take a picture or video of the dog to be provided to council.
As well as each council providing immediate action for management of dogs causing concern, they can then use these reports during their investigations to take additional action if/when required for repeat incidents.
Thank you for your help to keep our school safe.
Upper Primary Formal Uniforms – Policy update
Currently, boys in Stage 3 & 4 are able to wear their long pants or shorts at any time of the year. Please note the school policy has been updated in 2024 so that girls are also able to choose which formal uniform they wish to wear throughout the year depending on weather and preference. There are no longer set months where certain formal uniform must be worn.
Please note that girls can choose from the following options on their formal uniform days. Options must be worn in their entirety. We trust this update will provide more flexibility to student comfort whilst learning.
Girls Formal Uniform
All items from the following 3 options are compulsory school issue only:
Option 1*
Dress**
Navy crew socks
Option 2*
Shirt (long or short sleeve permitted)
Skirt**
Choice of navy tights or navy knee-high socks (applies to the skirt only)
Option 3*
Shirt (long or short sleeve permitted)
Navy trousers or navy shorts
Navy crew socks
*Any of the above options may be worn with or without the formal cable knit jumper.
Optional school issue:
Tie optional when student is wearing a long sleeve shirt.
The following items are not school issue:
Shoes – plain black ‘leather style’ lace up or plain black ‘Mary Jane’ style.
Note: Any of the three options may be worn at any time throughout the year providing it is complete: e.g., anklet socks cannot be worn with the skirt and tights/knee high socks cannot be worn with the dress or shorts.
**Note: Both skirt and dress must be of modest length to allow for comfortable learning and play – a guide is no shorter than 5cm above the knee when kneeling.
School Absences
Please don't forget, if your child is going to be absent from school you will need to notify both their classroom teacher and the front office. This can be done via email. The front office email is: admin@gspv.sa.edu.au
This helps us ensure that your child is safe and accounted for, and that we have the correct information regarding their absence.
ICAS Online Competitions
Dear Parents/Caregivers,
Each year at Good Shepherd Lutheran School Para Vista, we offer an opportunity for our students to participate in the ICAS Online Competitions. These are academic competitions that give students the chance to test their higher order thinking and problem-solving skills in Digital Technologies, Maths, Science and Writing. These competitions will take place in August this year
Participation is optional. This is an opportunity for students who wish to challenge and extend themselves.
If your child is interested in this opportunity, or if you have further questions, please get in touch with me via email (jared.grierson@gspv.sa.edu.au) or come see me in person. You can find me in the office near the library.
Cut-off date for registration is July 15th so make sure you get in touch before that date if your child would like to participate.
Sincerely,
Jared Grierson
Teaching and Learning Leader
Mother's Day Photos
Tomorrow, between 3pm - 3.45pm Friday 10th May, I will have the camera set up on the oval by the junior playground for any mums, grandmothers, or carers wanting to have a lovely photo taken with their children. (And if you're like some of the wonderful women I know that usually avoids being in photos, this is especially for you!) Your photo won't be shared, it is a special memory just for you. I hope you will come by for a little chat and a special snap with your kiddos.
See you then!

Marketing & Communications Coordinator
Mother's Day Stall
The Mother's Day Stall has been such a beautiful school event this week and the children have all enjoyed their chance to purchase a gift for Mum or significant female in their life.
Additionally, the stall will be out the front of school this Friday 10th May for all your last minute pressies!
This additional time slot is on Friday 2:30pm until approx. 4pm and means that students who missed out during the week, parents, caregivers, teachers and even siblings of GSPV students can come by and grab a gift if they wish to.
So why not come by and grab a gift or two or three!
Thanks - Mother's Day Team
Siblings
If you have not yet submitted an enrolment application for any siblings of current students, please do so as soon as possible to ensure a position is available, the sooner the better! Your prompt attention to this is greatly appreciated. Enrolment applications can be collected and returned to the front office.
Scholastic Book Club
Scholastic Book Club Issue 3 catalogues have been sent home with students last week.
Scholastic apps are available to download for both Apple and Android devices to make ordering through the Loop system easier.
There is the option to mark your purchases as GIFTS. When these books arrive, you will be contacted directly, rather than books going home with students.
Please also note that some titles offered, differ from the Christian ethos followed by the school.
Orders need to be placed via LOOP by 5pm TODAY.
Happy Reading Everyone!
URSTRONG Friendology for parents
Dear Parents,

Growing Faith at Home
Did you know that Jesus himself prayed for others? This week’s GFH resource is entitled ‘Jesus prays for his disciples’. The bible reading is from John 17. A little later in the chapter he actually prays for all believers. That includes you and I! Have a look at this week’s resource for ideas to try out with your family.
On another note… Mums, Grandmas and ladies who invest in the lives of others… God refresh and bless you for all the different ways you show your love and care. Have a wonderful Mother’s Day this Sunday!
Have a lovely week everyone!
