Grade 3-6: 

Reading/Writing:

Grades 3, 4, 5, and 6 have had an exciting past 2 weeks in reading lessons, where they have been focusing on the mentor text “The Gizmo”. Students have been able to complete a wide range of creative activities and comprehension activities that were focused on this book. The feedback from the students has been great with this mentor text, as they have said that they have really looked forward to reading a new chapter each day. It has been great to see students working collaboratively across all classrooms and trying their best during class time.

 

The students have been working on Information Reports during Writing lessons the past couple of weeks. Grades 3 and 4 have been working on creating an Information Report for an Invention. Grades 5 and 6 have been working on creating a Biography and presenting this neatly on a poster. Overall, grades 3-6 have been thoroughly enjoying the lessons being taught during Reading and Writing the past two weeks.

Maths:

Grades 3-6 have been working on Subtraction during the past 2 weeks of term, and they have really been enjoying the activities during this time. The students have been able to understand how to solve 2 digit, 3 digit, 4 digit and 5 digit subtraction equations using vertical subtraction. 

 

Students have been able to show clear working out during their work and have been able to give clear explanations and descriptions as to how they got to their final answer. Students have also been learning about the compensation strategy and the split strategy during this topic of subtraction. Grades 3, 4, 5 and 6 have been thoroughly enjoying the variety of subtraction activities during class time. They have even been able to challenge their thinking with a new problem solving equation every Friday morning.
