Eureka Athletics Carnival

On Monday the 29th of March, forty five students participated in the Eureka Level Athletics, competing against other schools in our district. Llanberris Athletics Reserve was jam packed with talent, as the students arrived at the venue. In the 100m Sprint, Felicity Stares was a clear stand-out for BSC, taking away a first place to kick start the day. Many others also achieved a podium finish with some more amazing track results, including another first place, this time for Harry Welsh, who seemed to be on wheels, as he easily won his 400m race.

Ellie Franc and Reagan Fulford achieved second and third respectively, in their 18–20-year-old Shot Put event, while Logan Sandlant performed very well, winning multiple place ribbons in his field events.

Thank you to Leah Holt, Issy McLinden and Jackie Kerr for their attendance on the day, helping students and assisting with various duties to ensure the smooth running of the day. We would also like to thank the students who assisted with the Long Jump; Kiarah Ford, Zaylee Peatt and Bailey Stewart and congratulate all those who participated.

Boys' Netball

On Wednesday the 1st of May the Intermediate and Senior boys travelled to Ballarat to compete in the Eureka Division Boys' Netball. New staff member, Josh Wells, whose experience within the sport is bountiful, led the Senior boys on their conquest against four other teams whilst Mr Webb led the Intermediate boys.

Harry Welsh, Liam Sage and Toby Wheeler from the Intermediate team stepped up to assist the Senior team, who were short of players. Liam Sage played very well as Goal Keeper, achieving many intercepts. As a result, the team took their first win against Mount Clear College. Sports Captain, Riley Burrill, also helped his team at the defensive end, although this was not enough to stop SEDA college from walking away with the win. Eric Wilkinson, using his height and feedback from coach, Josh, performed well as Goal Shooter. Using this to his advantage, Eric did exceptionally well in Game Three against Daylesford, leading to a draw. With one win, one loss and one draw, our Senior team was determined to notch another win. This would prove to be a difficult task, as they were up against powerhouse, Ballarat High School.

With a great team effort, especially Logan Sandlant’s hustling and the centre court skills of Toby Wheeler, the team were able to walk away with the win, 17 -12 . This meant a 2nd overall place for BSC.

Our Intermediate boys won their first game against Mount Clear, due to the intercept skills of Tom Grant and Nicolas Stares. Both Drinkwater boys, Javiar and Tristian, performed solidly in the midcourt, resulting in a 14-7 win. The Intermediate team came up against Ballarat High School in their second and final game. Ben Grant was on fire, not missing anything and keeping the scores to a draw at half time. Thanks to Zavier Duff, who put the pressure on in the midcourt, BSC were able to get a 2-point lead midway through the second half. After a few fumbles by the BSC team, Ballarat High were able to get back into the game, evening the scoreboard. Unfortunately, Ballarat High were able to score the next three goals, winning the game and progressing to the next level. Well done to both teams, who not only performed extremely well but who represented BSC to a high standard. Special thanks to Josh Wells for coaching the students and to Sport Captain, Reagan Fulford, who umpired for the day.

Senior Boys Football

On Tuesday the 7th of May, BSC faced Phoenix College, Mount Clear College, Ballarat High School and Daylesford Secondary, in the Senior Boys Football, with Mr Severino nominating himself as coach, taking on his first coaching role at Beaufort. Due to the lack of senior boys available, many of our intermediate boys stepped up to fill in.

During the first game, Mr Severino, who took on his first coaching role at BSC, was incredibly proud of the level of skill and composure our boys demonstrated. After Rory Bourke kicked the first goal, we thought we were in with a chance, leading by two goals throughout the game. Our small line-up in the forward line allowed for plenty of movement, with Rylee Jacka-Mulgrew almost converting a snap kick around his body. Much to the dismay of Mr Severino, Phoenix were able to kick two goals and one point, allowing them to walk away with the win, by just one point.

In the Mount Clear game, the boys again started well, however holes appeared in our game within the first half, leaving us at a five goal deficit at half-time. With discipline being a focus for the second half, Beaufort scored three goals, to Mount Clear's one, thanks to Ben Grant crumbing his own mark, leading to an open goal and Eric Wilkinson launching a bouncing ball through the goals. Despite our best efforts, we went down 6 goals to 3.

Our next opponents were the day's favourites, Ballarat High. This was a hard-fought game, with Cooper Cahill and Tom Grant working hard in the backline. We held Ballarat High to just five goals for the entire game and although this was a much better game than against Mount Clear, we still didn't manage to take the win.

Our final game saw us up against Daylesford Secondary College. Tom Lyons and Harry Welsh, two of our most valuable midfielders, went down due to cramping, requiring others to step up. With noteworthy performances by Tristian Drinkwater and Noah Scofield, we moved the ball fluidly into our forward line, but even though we put in a much better offensive performance, we went down to Daylesford 5 goals to 3.

Considering more than half the team consisted of intermediate students, all students participating on the day should be proud of their efforts. Students represented the school well, behaving in a manner consistent with the school values. Thanks to Mr Severino, for putting himself forward as coach.
