Advance

Beaufort Nursing Home

Advance is a subject with 3 pillars; communication, community and project management. As part of engaging with the community, during the past few weeks our group has visited the Beaufort Nursing Home and in that time we introduced ourselves and participated in different activities.

The first time we visited, we partook in their annual Anzac Day service. That involved sitting quietly while others recited poems such as ‘In Flanders Fields’ and ‘The Ode.’ Then, we listened to ‘The Last Post’ and the Australian National Anthem.

This week was also about getting to know the residents and letting them get to know us. For roughly 45 minutes, we spoke with everyone about subjects like football, farming, and even books and podcasts. It was a very successful day, and we left feeling satisfied!

This week we took some activities with us that we could enjoy doing with the residents - this included colouring, designing inspirational rock quotes and erecting structures with uncooked spaghetti pasta and marshmallows. It was great to see residents and students working together and engaging in conversations. We look forward to continuing this partnership in the coming weeks.

10c Container Scheme

Blue lidded bins have been added around our school in recent weeks by the Year 9/10 Semester 1 Advance students. These bins have been provided to us by McCallum BRI, a business that provides work for people living with disability.

A collaboration between the two groups will see the student’s raising money for the school, and for the Beaufort community, while helping create job opportunities for people living with disability.

These bins have been placed in various locations around the school; in the student centre, next to the toilets and near the green round table.

We encourage staff and students to place their 10 cent marked containers (cans, bottles and cartons) in the provided bins. Please refer to images regarding what can be placed in them.

Please refrain from placing general waste in these special bins as it can impact the money we can raise.
