Physical Education
We began the Term with our Year Four to Six students participating in our Intraschool House Cross Country, with 60 learners selected to represent our school at the Waverley Central District Event on Thursday 16th May. We wish those students all the best as they compete against the fastest cross-country runners in our district.
The Year 6 students will be participating in their weekly Winter Interschool Sports Competition. They will compete against other schools and improve their skills in Netball, T-ball, Ultimate frisbee, AFL 9’s, Soccer and Bootball.
Prep
In Term Two, Prep students will continue to have a focus on their movement skills and improving their spatial awareness, making sure they are safely moving and understanding the space they are in. They begin the term with a kicking unit, which is developing and mastering an important fundamental movement skill. Using a soccer ball, students will perform a range of individual and group tasks, learning and practising how to kick, trap and pass the ball. From here, we will progress into a unit focusing on dribbling, shooting, and controlling a basketball. Students have the opportunity to improve their hand-eye coordination as well as refining fine motor skills.

Year 1 and 2
Year 1 and 2 students begin Term 2 with a soccer unit, focusing on developing the fundamental movement skill of kicking. Students will learn how to kick a soccer ball to a partner, target and a goal. They'll refine their accuracy with their kicking, passing, and scoring skills. Get ready to dribble, shoot, and score in our special basketball program! Over two weeks, our students will learn all about basketball, from external basketball coaches. They will participate in fun and engaging learning tasks and drills and have a blast while learning new skills and working together. In our Invasion Games unit, students will participate in a range of learning tasks that will improve their strategical thinking. During this unit, teamwork and sportsmanship will be a major focus, allowing students to work in small groups or teams to achieve a common goal.

Year 3 and 4
In Term Two, students in Year 3 and 4 will continue to build their movement and hand-eye coordination capabilities through a range of different sports and activities. Students will begin the term exploring the fundamental skills of T-ball. Working both independently and in small groups, they will practise throwing, catching with a mitt and two-handed striking. While students in Year 4 are given opportunities to transfer these skills to T-ball match simulations, Year 3 students will shift their focus to an enriching basketball program run by Nunawading Basketball. External basketball coaches will teach them how to pass, dribble, shoot and defend in a fun and supportive environment. Year 3 students are sure to have an incredible experience while learning from experts! Later in Term Two, Year 3 and 4 students will continue the fitness testing program they commenced in Term One. They will record their results for the same fitness tests and evaluate their progress towards the goals they set for themselves. This will be a fantastic opportunity for students to celebrate their achievements and strive for additional improvement by setting new goals. To conclude Term Two, students in Year 3 and 4 will immerse themselves in a fascinating dance unit. They will explore the core elements of dance, before transferring their knowledge to perform a range of dance sequences. Students will utilise expressive movement to dance in rhythm to music.

Year 5 and 6
In Term Two, students in Year 5 and 6 will explore the fundamentals of basketball and dance. They will broaden their understanding of the importance of a healthy and active lifestyle through the continuation of our student-led fitness testing program. While learning about basketball, students will practise the fundamental skills of dribbling and shooting, both independently and in small group scenarios. From here, they will transition to more advanced basketball strategies, such as zone defence, which they will transfer to basketball gameplay simulations. Later in the term, Year 5 and 6 students will continue their fitness testing program. Using the data they collected in Term One as a baseline, they will undertake the same fitness tests and self-evaluate their growth. This will give students a wonderful opportunity to reflect on the progress they have made towards their Term One goals, before updating their goals for the remainder of the year. To conclude Term Two, Year 5 and 6 students will delve into the fundamentals of dance. They will learn about the elements of dance, before applying rhythmic and expressive movement to create and follow captivating dance sequences.
