Secondary Years, Tarneit

Winter Uniform - Ties

Now that we are in Term 2, students are required to wear their Winter Uniform, which includes the wearing of the College tie. As we transition to our new uniform supplier, there is a limited supply of the old Senior Year ties available for purchase at the Front Office. The cost of the ties is $10 (cash sale only). In the interim, Secondary Years students can wear any of the old GNLC ties (Middle Years or Senior Years) until the end of 2025.

Supply of the new College uniform should be available for purchase by the end of May.

Wyndham Youth Civic Participation Project

I've often spoken about the importance of growing the whole student, which means engaging in learning outside of the traditional school environment. The Wyndham area often has many wonderful opportunities for the youth of this area to engage in community projects and civic learning. One such activity is the Wyndham Youth Civic Participation Project.

If you are a Secondary school Legal Studies or Business Management student, you may be interested in this project. The project (aimed at 18-25 year olds) is for Wyndham’s aspiring lawyers, policymakers and community leaders who would like to see behind the curtain of Local, State and Federal politics and government. Participants will have to opportunity to speak with Councillors, senior public servants, and council staff members, about their responsibilities in government. Along with completing the program with like-minded young people, participants will visit Wyndham City Council, spend a day at Parliament House Victoria and travel to Canberra for a 4-day tour, visiting Parliament House, Museum of Australian Democracy, High Court of Australia, and the Australian War Museum. The program is delivered from July until September.

Applications are now open and will close 11 June 2024. Limited spots available.

Class Photo Day

A reminder that class photos will be taken on Monday 29 April. Please see below for more information including photo purchase procedures and uniform guidelines.

Identity - What does it mean to be Aussie?

In Year 7 Health students were asked to ponder what it means to be Aussie. Students looked at legal definitions but delved more deeply into what it means to belong to their communities in Australia, and what an Aussie looks like. Students looked at the artwork of Australian artist Peter Drew and then to create their own posters in this style. The works are amazing and the reflections are very incisive.

Here are some reflections from Year 7D:

"My culture, my family, my values, the fact I follow the law, my personality, my citizenship, and my birth country, and my birthright. My favourite foods, the languages I speak and the communities I’m a part of all play a part of how I am an Aussie. My photo has included me dressed in my cultural clothing, which represents the fact that I am Australian since Australia is a multicultural country that accepts all races..." - Tina Dong

"Lots of things make me Aussie but being Aussie isn’t about where we come from or if we have different skin tones anyone can be Aussie if they want to. What makes me Aussie is that I am a risk taker and I’m not afraid to try something new..." - Lucie Goss

Year 7 Girls Netball

Kudos to the eight GNLC netballers in Year 7 who represented our school at the interschool competition at Eagle Stadium on Monday 22 April. 12 different schools were competing, we played against Brinbeal Secondary College and the Grange who defeated us. We also played against Wyndham Central and had a win with a score of 12-8. A big thank you to Abbey Gering (Year 11) who coached, Raima Bisht (Year 11) for scoring and Mr Lambert for driving the minibus! Very proud of you for representing our school admirably against tough competition. Well done girls!
