Welcome back to Term 2! The foundation student’s have been busily completing their ‘Line Monsters’. Students have enjoyed creating character profiles for their ‘Monsters’, and have started to create short stories about them. Throughout Term 2, students will be exploring ‘The Hungry Caterpillar Art Project’. Students will be learning how to mix Primary Colours to make Secondary colours within this work. It is a mixed media piece with lots of new skills, techniques and processes being explored. Please supply your child with a smock, protective clothing, or an old, long sleeved shirt to ensure our uniforms remain clean.
Year 1 & 2 have completed their study of the colour wheel. They can confidently mix Primary colours to create Secondary colours. They have studied warm and cool colours and complementary colours while applying their knowledge to an Art project. We have an exciting term ahead of us as Year 1 & 2 students will be exploring clay. They will learn how to make a texture snake with salt dough before moving into clay and making a pinch pot. Please supply your child with a smock as this will be so much fun, but also…MESSY!
Year 3 & 4 have had an extremely exciting start to Term 2. Student’s are exploring ‘Hand Art’. They will look at the history of Art and apply new skills, techniques and processes to a hand sculpture during the coming weeks. Paint will be used in this project. Please supply your child with a smock, protective clothing or an old long sleeved shirt to ensure our uniforms remain clean. Students completed their ‘Larry Loudmouth’ Art works and had a lot of fun creating a story based on ‘A day in the life of Larry Loudmouth’.
Year 5 & 6 students celebrated their amazing ‘Elements of Art Hands’ from Term 1. During a gallery walk, students commended each other on their Artwork. The student’s words of encouragement to each other displayed our values of Respect, Zest, Learning Together and Kindness. This Term, Year 5 & 6 students will be exploring the Artwork of Yayoi Kusama. They will be designing their own pumpkin based on her work and will work towards making a large paper mache Pumpkin that will be painted and varnished in the style of ‘Kusama’. Please supply your child with an art smock, protective clothing or an old, long sleeved shirt to ensure there is no damage to our school uniform.
Year 6 students have volunteered for an amazing opportunity in partnership with The Arts Centre Melbourne and their program ‘Stories in the wall. This is an incredible opportunity in which we have been partnered with professional playwrights, who, over the coming weeks, will work with our students to create plays telling their stories. We are then invited to the Arts Centre to record them in a professional recording studio. After this, the Students from The Victorian College of the Arts create a musical score overlay. Our stories will be presented and performed at The Arts Centre Melbourne. We are so excited to see this amazing project come to life! For more information please see the link below:
