5/6 Soccer team

We had an awesome day at Epsom Huntly Rec Reserve in week 9. Our boys team won 2, lost 2 and won their 5th place play off for a successful and enjoyable day of football. And... our girls... won the lot! 🏆

We played 4 games against St Monica's, Eaglehawk North, St Liborius and Huntly Primary Schools and managed 3 wins and a draw. Well done to both the boys and the girls and thanks to all our awesome supporters 😁

3-6 Swim Lessons

Grade 3-6 students have enjoyed a week of swimming lessons at Gurri Wanyarra. It was great to see so many kids having fun with the friends and instructors whilst improving their swimming skills. Kids practised their strokes, learnt water safety skills and LOVED the Splash Park on Friday. Feedback from the instructors was "Epsom kids are the best kids we've had all year" 💕

Music

Grade 3-6 students have almost finished their time on their second selected instrument. They have been developing skills and learning a variety of songs in preparation for next term, when they will complete compositional challenges and create their own songs.

Grade 1-2 are honing their listening skills, learning to anticipate when to change notes and chords to align with the tempo of a song. They are learning to rely on their ears more than their eyes, to know when to make changes to their playing.

Recently, they have been playing "The Beat Maze", where they have to walk across the room, using the squares of carpet - the catch is... they must only move on the count of "4" when listening to a metronome, and they cannot step in the same space as someone else, or they are both out.

Grade Prep students are learning about Tempo (speed of the song) and why and when we may want to listen to fast or slow music. We have also been looking at safety, in particular, how our hearing works and how to protect it from getting damaged.

Students have also been playing resilience and team work games, with our latest game called "Switch" combining Rock, Paper Scissors and turn taking.

Visual Arts

Term 2 has come to an end and we have been in awe of the skills and talents of our budding artists once again on display. Over the holidays, take advantage of some of the spare time on offer and let your imagination run wild. Here is just a tiny sample of the amazing works we have seen this term.

 Grade 6 Auslan Excursion

Students have developed an awareness of the Deaf Culture by touring the Oldest Deaf School in Victoria. - The Victorian College for the Deaf on St Kilda Road Melbourne. We had the chance to also be in a deaf classroom and engage in school life with deaf students. We then traveled to West Melbourne and indulged in a yummy dessert made by the deaf owner Brett. Brett signed and spoke about his experience as a deaf man and running his business.

Grade 4 Auslan Excursion

Grade 4 Students have developed an awareness around Deaf and Hearing by having the opportunity to experience open captions and closed caption devices at the Bendigo Cinemas. We also had the opportunity to watch an Auslan interpreter who assisted Lem who is deaf and we spent some time with him asking questions
