It has been wonderful to see all students return for Term 2, invigorated for another term of learning and well-rested from the Easter Holidays. Term 2 begun with news in the Primary School that our Head of Primary, Tracey Rogers, was on leave for the term. I thank the Primary Leadership and staff for their support of each other and we will ‘hold the ship steady’ for Mrs Rogers before her return from leave in Term 3.
We commenced the term with a Welcome Back Assembly for the Year 2-6 students, to allow the Pre-Primary and Year 1 students a chance to settle back into the ELC and the routine of school. At this Assembly we talked of our “Work Hard, Be Kind and Have Fun” motto in the Primary School. We discussed our Personal Best and Gratitude certificates and how we can acknowledge students who are striving for improvement in their learning or being a good citizen of the School.
We took the opportunity to share with the students at this Assembly how the Teachers and Education Assistants had all attended the Anglican Identity Day at HBF Stadium to commence Term 2. We discussed John Wollaston Anglican Community School being part of a ‘team’ of Anglican Schools across Australia. We talked about what makes us unique as an Anglican school: having a Chapel to worship at; having a school that focuses on pastoral care and inclusivity; and having an Anglican Identity through constantly questioning, inquiring and being curious about faith and the world around us. We look forward to seeing many opportunities this term where this can be lived out by our students.
It was moving this morning to have our Years 2-6 students join the Secondary School as part of our ANZAC Day service. Remembering soldiers and service men and women who have and continue to sacrifice for the betterment of our country is important for our young people of today. Having the time to silently reflect and contemplate conflicts past and present helps our children to look forward to a more peaceful future.
