Level 6

Level  6

Maths

During week 3, Level 6's have had the opportunity to revise and develop a further understanding of angles. We have looked in to classifying and measuring angles and then applying this understanding. Students have enjoyed the hands-on activities. They have particularly enjoyed creating their own mini golf course and being able to establish the angle they need to hit the ball to get a hole in one. It has been fantastic watching the kids being highly engaged in these lessons.

Writing

Throughout writing this week, students have continued exploring poetry. We have looked at Haikus, Limericks, blackout and free verse poems. Students have been working on using figurative language, syllables, humour and emotion to enhance their poems.

Reading

This week, we have had a focus on how an author applies tone to their writing and what impact it has on us as the reader. Not only have we looked at written texts, but students were also exposed to multimedia advertisement and how tone is portrayed in that media. It has been beautiful watching the students engage in these lessons, especially reading books in the wrong tone to deepen their understanding of tone and why it is important. These skills will be used again later in the term when we introduce the Inquiry final project.

Inquiry

Throughout Inquiry lessons, we have continued to investigate the Australian Government. We are at the stage of their learning where we have immersed them into the unit and now, they have the opportunity to shape what this unit will look like. Students have been able to share what they already know and what future learning they would like to learn about the   Australian Government.

Hawks Friends Program

In Level 6, the students have been busy learning lots of different things! A fan favourite in the past 2 weeks was during the Hawks Friends Program, where the students learnt about empathy. To give the students an immersive experience, students wore visual simulators, which allowed them to see what it was like to have a visual impairment. The visual simulators included impairments such as tunnel vision, cataracts and blurred vision. With this, the students participated in football drills like kicking and passing, and thoroughly enjoyed learning how to navigate having a visual impairment. A lot of students came away with gratitude for their vision and a newfound respect for those who aren’t as fortunate.
