Foundation

In the first three weeks of the term, our Foundation students have been embarking on physical education explorations, discovering how to move efficiently in space. We kicked off with the basics of "correr" (running), focusing on lifting knees and keeping eyes looking forward to improve balance.

Students are also collaborating in relay races, navigating through obstacles and cheering each other on. In games like "scarecrow tiggy" and "mushroom tiggy," our little students are mastering the art of safe play, learning to be gentle and following game rules while having a blast.

Through trial and error, our Foundation students are not only becoming adept movers but also developing crucial teamwork and safety skills, setting the stage for an active and fun-filled term ahead!

Grades 1/2

With Grade 1 and 2 students, our focus has been on mastering object control skills using our manos (hands). Students have been practising their underarm and overarm lanzamientos (throws), learning the importance of foot placement, arm positioning, and eye focus for accurate throws in target games. They've also been exploring how different forces impact the trajectory of thrown objects.

In addition to skill development, students are being reminded the significance of teamwork, sharing equipment, and taking turns in group activities. These foundational skills are crucial for a harmonious and inclusive environment in PE and beyond.

This week, students were introduced to a 5-week basketball program, where they will further enhance their lanzamientos (throws) and atrapar (catching) abilities.

Grades 3/4

Over the first three weeks of term, our Years 3 and 4 students have been working on their driblar (dribbling) skills. We began by using European handballs, progressing to basketballs. Students have been focusing on using their fingertips to guide the ball downwards, maintaining a waist-level bounce, following a rhythmic pattern, and keeping their eyes forward for better control.

Students have been encouraged to employ cooperative strategies, such as teamwork and communication, in team games. In the upcoming weeks, we will integrate dribbling with other movement skills such as atrapar (catching) and saltar (jumping).

Grades 5/6

In the first three weeks of term, our Years 5 and 6 students have been performing a "bandeja" (lay-up) in basketball. They've been mastering the sequence: dribble, stop bouncing, grip the ball with both hands, take two steps, jump, and shoot. The focus is on seamlessly transitioning between dribbling and shooting skills.

This week, our focus is also on strategic gameplay, where students are learning tactics to maintain possession in team games. They are also improving their passing skills, aiming to deliver accurate throws to moving receivers.

As the term progresses, our students are set to become more adept at both the technical and tactical aspects of basketball and handball.
