🥉 Podium Finish: Hayati showcased her talent and dedication, securing the 3rd position in Australia for the 7-8-year-old category. What an outstanding accomplishment!

 

Hayati, your hard work and passion for golf have truly paid off. We're immensely proud of your success and can't wait to see you achieve even more amazing feats in the future.

In Term 2, our prep students are diving back into the musical magic with excitement and rhythm! They're not just tapping toes anymore; they're grooving to the beat and busting out their best moves as they learn to keep a steady beat. But that's not all - they're also unleashing their inner vocal virtuosos by continuing to explore the four voices in music: calling, whispering, singing, and speaking. From hushed whispers to booming calls, they're discovering the incredible range of expression in every note. Through fun activities and interactive games, they're not only mastering these voices but also having a blast while doing it. So get ready to dance, sing, and shout along with our prep superstars as they rock their way through Term 2!

 

YEAR 1

Our Year 1 students have been rocking it out in their music classes. They've been on a thrilling adventure exploring the wonderful world of classroom instruments. These mini-musicians can spot a xylophone from a mile away and identify a tambourine's jingle with their eyes closed. Talk about impressive! But wait, there's more! They've now embarked on an enchanting journey with none other than Peter and the Wolf. They're diving into Sergei Prokofiev's timeless tale and learning all about the different instruments that represent the story's characters. From the mighty French Horns to the playful flutes, our Year 1 rockstars are discovering the power of music to tell a captivating story. YEAR 2

Get ready to embark on a musical journey like never before with our Year 2 students! This term, they're diving into the wonderful world of rhythm with enthusiasm and curiosity. From clapping to stomping, they're learning to recognise, play, and even dictate simple Ta and TiTi rhythmic patterns with infectious energy. YEAR 3 

We've got some exciting news from our fabulous Year 3  students who have been making sweet music with their recorders. These talented little maestros have been honing their musical skills and having an absolute blast in the process. From lively renditions of "Hot Cross Buns" to toe-tapping versions of "Skin and Bones," these youngsters are taking the recorder world by storm! It's been an absolute joy to see their enthusiasm as they proudly toot away, bringing smiles to everyone's faces. Who knew those little plastic pipes could create such melodic magic? Keep an ear out for the sensational sounds of our recorder prodigies – they're sure to leave you humming along in no time!

 

YEAR 4

Get ready to strum along with the Year 4 students as they embark on a musical journey filled with ukulele fun! This term, they're picking up their trusty ukuleles and diving into the world of chords, melodies, and catchy tunes. From learning the basics to mastering more complex techniques, they're honing their skills with every pluck and strum. YEAR 5

Gear up for an exciting fusion of sports and music as our Year 5 students embark on a rhythmic adventure this term! In the music room, they're dribbling to the beat, passing the rhythm, and shooting musical notes, unlocking a whole new level of creativity. But hold onto your seats - there's more! These talented students aren't just practicing basketball rhythms; they're crafting their own compositions. YEAR 6

Brace yourselves for some serious rockstar vibes because our Year 6 students are taking the stage by storm. They've formed their very own class band, and let me tell you, they are the epitome of cool. These musical mavericks have been jamming together, strumming guitars, banging drums, and blowing our minds with their killer violin solos. But that's not all, folks! They've taken their musical prowess to the next level by recreating popular pop songs with their unique flair. From catchy hooks to electrifying guitar riffs, our Year 6 rockstars are ready to ignite the stage and make you feel the rhythm in your bones. So, grab your air guitars and get ready to rock out with our incredible Year 6 class band. Stay tuned for more epic performances that will leave you begging for an encore!

 

CHOIR

Get ready to be blown away by the sheer talent and energy of our school choir! After an exciting round of auditions at the end of term 1, we are thrilled to announce that we've accepted a whopping 60 singers - and let me tell you, that's huge! I was absolutely impressed by the incredible voices that auditioned, and I wished I could have said yes to more, but alas, 60 kids already make for quite the ensemble. To those who didn't make it this time, please don't be discouraged! Keep practicing, keep singing your heart out, and most importantly, don't forget to try again next year. Our choir family is always growing, and who knows, next time it could be your moment to shine on stage with us! Let's make some unforgettable music together!

 

Art

In Art this term all students will be exploring the world of Pop Art! Pop Art is characterised by its use of popular culture imagery and objects, often from advertising, comic books, and everyday life, presented in a bold and colourful way. 

 

Students will also learn about specific Ancient art forms.

Year 6 students will create their own Ancient Egyptian Pharoah inspired head dress.

Year 5 students will learn about  Ancient art from China and create their own paper Fine China Vases.

The year 4 students will create a collage of hybrid animals inspired by ancient Mesopotamian art.

Year 3 students will design their own Madhubani style birds.

Year 2 students will design their own Ancient Greek inspired vases.

Year 1 students  will create a collage inspired by traditional Japanese cloths. 

Prep students will create their own Ancient Egyptian inspired paper head dress.

 

Physical Education

Welcome back, everyone! It's time to kick off another term of fun and fitness in PE class. Here's a sneak peek at what's in store for each year level:

 

Prep to Year 2: Throwing, Catching, and AFL Adventures

Get ready to show off your throwing and catching skills, little champions! We'll be honing those fundamental motor skills to perfection. But that's not all—get ready to lace up your footy boots because in the second half of the term, we're diving into the exciting world of AFL football! From hand passes to marks, you'll be mastering the basics through awesome partner drills and whole class activities.

 

Years 3 to 6: Soccer and Football Fever

Attention, soccer stars and football fanatics! This term, it's all about skill work and game sense. Whether you're dribbling down the field or strategising for the perfect pass, we'll be sharpening those techniques and understanding the game on a whole new level. Get ready to kick it up a notch and score some goals!

 

So, grab your sneakers and get pumped for a term packed with teamwork, skill-building, and lots of fun on the field. Let's make this term our best one yet!

To all our bookworms, it’s that exciting time of the year when students will embark on the Premiers’ Reading Challenge. The 2024 theme is EXPLORE, LEARN & ENJOY! The challenge aims to promote reading and for the children to develop a love for literature and books.

 

On Wednesday, students received a printed letter explaining the VPRC, including their usernames and passwords. Please encourage your child to become involved in this personal reading challenge. As a school community, we hope all students will complete the challenge and students will read like never before!! Our school library is open on Tuesday - Friday mornings before school at 8:30 am and after school each day until 3:45 pm. All are welcome to return and borrow books during these times or to ask for assistance regarding the VPRC if needed. Computers are also available for students to add books to their challenge lists.

 

So kids grab a book, curl up in a cozy corner, and let the adventures begin! Remember to add the books you read to your online lists as you go. The Hume Library also has a huge selection of VPRC books for you to read. Happy reading, everyone!
