Assistant Principal's Report

Home Group

The school leadership team has been conducting Learning Walk and Talks focusing on the implementation of the school Home Group program. Learning Walks and Talks are a data collection tool allowing school leaders to become effective instructional leaders. They are an opportunity to observe expected learning programs, effective assessment, and instructional practices.

We observed that students felt a strong understanding of the school values through explicit teaching, and that they are developing a toolbox of skills to replace defiant behaviours and have explored the utilisation of empathy skills. Students also expressed that they have fantastic support from their peers, teachers and families. Some students shared that improving their prompt arrival at Home Group, asking more questions and trying to employ the learnt skills across the school would continue to improve their learning. They identified that the new knowledge and skills they are receiving will improve overall school and community behaviour as students develop a greater awareness of the impact of their choices on others. We will continue to complete regular Learning Walks and Talks throughout the year in Home Group and regular teaching classes.

Year 7 Camp

I had the privilege of attending Year 7 camp. It was a pleasure to be welcomed by Outdoor School staff at Bogong and to immerse myself in the experience with the students. I want to publicly thank the staff that have attended with a particular acknowledgement of Ms Vicky Levesque on her organisation, attendance and support of our students. I know that the impact of this camp will continue throughout the school year and cannot wait to welcome the students back to classes.

Values

Confidence is a critical skill at school, it allows students and staff to bond over challenges and establish patterns of behaviour that demonstrate resilience. I encourage all students to speak with their teachers, parents and mentors on ways that confidence can be demonstrated in their learning. This could be where a student sits in a class, who they work with or how they present their learning.
