F-4 Community News

From the F-4 Community Leaders

What a bustling term it has been for the F-4 Community. With numerous events already completed, we are eagerly anticipating our F-4 Assembly at the end of term to showcase our fantastic learning experiences. The Assembly will take place in the Brigidine Centre on Wednesday 27th March at 10am, and we extend a warm invitation to all parents, caregivers and friends to join us.

It has been delightful watching our Foundation students settle into school life and begin to thrive. This week marks the first Wednesday our Foundation students are attending, and their resilience in adapting to school life has been impressive. The Foundation students also enjoyed their annual stay back earlier in the term, with bright smiles seen on their faces throughout the afternoon.

The Years 1 and 2 students have hit the ground running this year with the Year 1's Stay Back on Thursday 29th February and the Years 2's Sleepover last Thursday. These events have allowed students to build resilience, forge new friendships and have a blast participating in games and free play. Surprisingly, having the playground to themselves after school turned out to be a highlight for many.

Years 3 and 4 students have immersed themselves in novel studies of Mr Stink by David Walliams and Nim’s Island by Wendy Orr. Additionally, the Year 3s have been involved in NAPLAN testing this week, with their final test set for next week.

This term, F-4 students have had the chance to participate in school-wide events such as Caritas Ks and an excursion focused on Our Common Home. These events have enabled students to deepen their understanding of social justice issues and our responsibility to care for our shared environment.

Religious Education

In Religious Education this term we have been studying the unit, 'I am Special, so are You.'

We have looked at our special talents and those of our parents. During this unit, we made mirrors that reflected our image and we thanked God for our uniqueness.

Foundation Stay Back

On Tuesday 20th February, the Foundation students enjoyed their Stay Back. They enjoyed a delicious afternoon tea together before playing some fun games on the undercover court area.

It was a very hot afternoon and everyone enjoyed a nice cold icy pole before heading home. What a great afternoon 😊

Home Reading

The Foundation students have been loving learning the letters and sounds in the classroom. We would like to extend our thank you to the Foundation parents who attended the Home Reading Information Session on Tuesday 5th March, where the home reading expectations were outlined for our parents. Students have now learned the first phase of sounds which means it was time to send the first decodable reader home! The Foundation students were so excited to take home their reader bags and start the home reading journey.

Doctor Jess Visit

As part of our inquiry unit 'People Who Help Us' the Foundation students had Dr Jess Halstead visit to talk about how a doctor can help us. Dr Jess showed the Foundation students how to add the organs of the body to a life size tracing. We had lots of fun using a stethoscope, bandages and pretend needles. A big thank you to Dr Jess for visiting us again this year.

The Foundation students have now been introduced to their first three sets of letters (s, a, t, p, i, n, m, d, g, o, c, k). They have been working hard during our Literacy sessions to become familiar with these sounds and have been practising to write and blend these together. We have had lots of fun participating in various hands-on activities in the classroom.

Buddies

In Foundation we are very lucky we have two lots of buddies from Year 6 and Year 12.

The Year 12 buddies made sheep with us in our classrooms, These were then used during the Parish Mass which we attended together.

Our Year 6 buddies have also visited us in our classrooms. We loved playing snakes and ladders with them and getting to know them.

Years 1 and 2

The Years 1 and  2 students have had an exciting last few weeks.

It all began with the Year 1 Stay Back.

Students were excited to wear casual clothes to school for the day before enjoying a special afternoon tea of fruit, tiny teddies and icy poles. We enjoyed having the playground to ourselves and playing McDonalds Tiggy on the back court.

Before heading home for the night, lots of giggles were heard as we showed off or dance moves when playing bobs and statues.

Last week, the highlight of many Year 2 student's year occurred when we had our Year 2 sleepover in the BC.

Everyone was excited to set up their beds, check out each other's teddies and find out what movie we were going to watch. Lots of fun was had outside feasting on pizza and chips, before cooling off with an icy pole. We enjoyed our night walk hunting for koalas and our decorated biscuits for morning tea the next day.

Our staff were super impressed with the fabulous behaviour of all students at both events. Well done 1/2 team!
