Eclipse House News

Term One has come to an end and Eclipse boarding has had an eventful and positive start to the year. The term has been packed full of activities, from camps, hospitality events, music lessons, sporting grand finals and weekend recreation with engagement and discipline all shining through. There have been two aspects of Eclipse boarding that I would like to highlight with you.

Independence

Eclipse boarders are well on their way to mastering the challenging skill of independence. This is developed with maturity and the understanding that they are in control of their goals and what they would like to achieve. I have been impressed with the way all boys are driven to succeed and go about the daily tasks with autonomy and pride. This is also on show through their academics and organisation. Managing busy schedules and placing time aside to allow rest and recovery. We are looking forward to building on this independence in Term Two.

Integrity

I have asked many boys over the course of the term, one question: What does integrity mean to you?

All boys have managed to answer this question quickly and confidently. Some responses include. Doing the right thing! Acting in a way that aligns with my values! Being honest! Doing the right thing when no one is looking! Being genuine and true to oneself! Being open and transparent in actions and communication, allowing for accountability and trustworthiness. Being dependable and fulfilling commitments and obligations consistently.

In Eclipse, we hold integrity at the forefront of everything we do, it is pleasing to see this trait shine through in Term One. We continue to build on it and spread it through our boarding community.

Culture, Engagement, Excellence

Mr Mat Irving posed the above focus for the school community this year. The Eclipse boarders have gravitated to these concepts, and it has been pleasing to witness them in action. All staff in Eclipse have proactively worked to highlight these and displayed what they have seen in the supervisor's office. Below is a snapshot of what they look like in Eclipse.

Goodbye for now and Good Luck Mr Forward

This term, we say goodbye, for now, to a much-loved staff member in Sam Forward. He is off on an adventure to Tasmania with his partner Zoe and dog Billy. He will be greatly missed as the impact he has had on Eclipse boarders over the years has been incredible. We wish Sam and his family all the best in his next phase of adventure. Please come back and visit!

Birthdays

We extend best wishes to Lucas Smart who recently turned 15 years of age.  Many happy returns, Lucas.

Student Report

Hi, I'm Zane, and my experience of Year Ten boarding school has been quite the adventure so far. I have begun my fourth year in boarding and so far the first eight weeks have been filled with a great deal of fun and amazing times.

At first, I was excited to see my best mates Bert and Corinthian who survived boarding with me last year. So far boarding has been different as the routines change as in longer prep time and later bedtimes or early phone access and hand-in IT later. These sorts of routines help me with study time and my sleep schedule.

When I first joined Eclipse at the start of the year, I noticed that the boys had a strong connection with each other including their sports and academic excellence.

The recreation activities have been useful. Our activities are beach/surfing, basketball, and more. My favorite recreation activity is probably playing basketball on Friday night with Mr Ferreira.

The supervisors have been a key help in the boarding houses, to do recreation, supervise, and cooking. Unfortunately, Mr Forward or Sammy is leaving at the end of this term. Mr Forward has been a key person in boarding especially for recreation as he is always keen to take the boys out on fun adventures such as surfing trips to Nanarup, going to the lookout, taking us out for ice cream and being an overall nice guy. He will be missed amongst the boarding houses, and we hope he enjoys his stay in Tasmania and hope to see him again sometime soon.

I look forward to more enjoyable times in Eclipse House.
