NAPLAN
Ben Hawthorn.
In week 7 this term, Grade 3 and Grade 5 students will undertake the NAPLAN assessment for 2024. NAPLAN is a national literacy and numeracy assessment that students in Years 3, 5, 7 and 9 sit each year. It is the only national assessment all Australian students undertake.
NAPLAN assesses the literacy and numeracy skills that students are learning through our school curriculum and allows parents/carers to see how their child is progressing against national standards and over time.
NAPLAN is just one aspect of our school’s assessment and reporting process. It doesn’t replace ongoing assessments made by teachers about student performance, but it can provide teachers with additional information about students’ educational progress. NAPLAN also provides our school with information about how our education programs are working.
Students are not expected to study for NAPLAN. You can support your child by reassuring them that NAPLAN is a part of their school program and reminding them to simply do their best. Some familiarisation and explanation of NAPLAN is useful to help students understand and be comfortable with the format of the tests. Teachers will ensure students are familiar with the types of questions in the tests and will provide appropriate support and guidance leading up to and throughout the NAPLAN testing period.
This year, NAPLAN assessments will be completed on the following days in March:
Testing such as NAPLAN can cause some children to feel anxious and we are working hard at school to make sure all students feel as comfortable as possible to undertake these tests. As the Assistant Principal, I am looking forward to NAPLAN and see it as a great opportunity to showcase the great educational outcomes that are happening here at Echuca East PS. If you have any concerns at all regarding NAPLAN and your child’s wellbeing, please contact myself or your child’s teacher for a chat.
Regards,
Ben Hawthorn
