Learning Community 3

"Last week the Cultural and PBS leaders went on an excursion to the Cardinia Civic Centre to learn about Indigenous Culture. We also got to meet the Mayor. We learnt about how Aboriginal people used to live and what they used to do. It was really fun and we all wish we could do it again. We learnt a lot and we met so many cool people."

Our work over the last two weeks in reading has aimed to equip our students in each of the roles that are required for participation in Literature Circles, which will begin next term. We have been very impressed by the standard of work from the grade 5 students even at this early stage.

Students have revised persuaisive writing and the use of persuasive devices. They all created their "Best Burger" and then tried to convince us to buy one. There were some very 'interesting' burgers!

We have completed revison of all four numeracy processes over the start of the term and have been investigating properties of numbers such as; prime, composite, square, and cube. We always try to include a fun 'warm up' activity to get our brains into gear and prepare us for the lesson. This also serves as revision as the year progresses.

We are looking forward to catching up with everyone at the parent/tacher converstions next week.

See you there!
