What a busy week we have had in Class!

Relief Staff

A special thank you to Karen Francke who has travelled considerable distance each day to provide relief teaching to our English classes whilst both of our English teachers have been absent. Thank you also to Kim Davies who travelled all the way from Perth on Tuesday to help us out.

Classroom teachers and administration staff have also picked up extra relief classes this week. Dr Henderson and Mrs Browning have been sending in detailed classroom lessons and with the help of the relief teachers, students have been able to continue with their English program. Thanks to everyone involved.

What's Been Happening in Class

This week most classes have been out of classroom at least once.

The Year 12 students went to the Beef enterprise on Monday to look at how the natural resources we have support our Beef and Pasture Enterprises and how these enterprises may impact on the environment around them.

Students considered the soil type, topography, vegetation (both natural and pastures) and land degradation issues. As part of this task, we have taken some water samples and will be comparing the quality of alternative water sources that we use for stock. This task is focussed on sustainability and forms an important part of both the students Plant and Animal subjects.

Year 12 Animal Production System students began the Beef feedlot trial this week gathering introductory information. Students are eagerly awaiting the weeks when they go back to take weekly weights to compare weight gain.

The Year 11 students in Plant Production Systems have commenced their produce for purpose task and have been preparing and seeding a variety of beans. Students will be involved in caring for these plants for approximately the next 12 weeks and will be making regular observation about the plants growth and health. We are hoping they will be as successful as the 2023 crop as we really enjoyed eating the fresh beans as they were harvested and used by the kitchen.

Year 10 Plant Production class created 3D flower models and discussed the importance of flowers. Flowers play a crucial role in the ecosystem by attracting pollinators such as bees, butterflies and birds, assisting in the reproduction of plants and the continuation of various species.

We are Technology Reliant

Our recent power outage highlighted to us how reliant on technology we have all become. Both staff and students quickly realised how lucky we are to have regular access to electronic devices, data projectors, photocopiers, internet and let us not forget airconditioned rooms! Thanks to the students and staff who took the challenges of working without power in their stride and made the best of it.
