PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE

Mr David Whewell | Principal

Teaching and Learning

Term One is well underway and I have visited every class on several occasions.  Students are settled and engaged in their learning.  One positive that stands out as I move around the school is the effective differentiation happening during classroom and specialist sessions.  Students are working at a range of levels depending on their need.  Students with extra needs have been getting additional assistance through involvement in our support programs.

Bullying

As the Principal at Plenty Parklands, I am very open to parents coming to see me to discuss any concerns they have with their children’s education.  I am however noticing that at times those parents that want to come to discuss bullying issues, are displaying bullying tendencies in the way they interact with our staff.

Please be aware that our school values are there for all the PPPS community.  If you are very frustrated and need to come to the office for support, maybe take some time and come and see us the next day. Raised voices, lists of demands and aggressive body language will not help us provide your children with the care that they deserve.

Fun Night

There are only fourteen more sleeps until our PPPS Fun Night on Thursday 7th March.  Planning is well underway for the event, which will be held on the school grounds between 4pm-7pm.  This year we have increased the number of activities, including the addition of several rides for our students to enjoy.

One key factor in running a successful Fun Night is volunteer support and at the moment, our numbers are down in this area.  If you believe that you can help in the lead up to Fun Night or on the night itself, please contact Laura in the office.

Facilities Development

As our students and staff now enjoy our completed new buildings and renovations, we plan to move on to some exciting new projects around the school.  We are currently finalising plans for three major improvements, which include a new Prep/Year 1 playground, enhancements to our administration area and a new shaded seating area up on our sports ground.  These projects will be completed either during the upcoming school holidays, or in the Term Two school holidays that follow.

As parents you can be confident that we continue to make sure that your children have access to the best possible educational facilities that we can provide.

Assemblies

On Monday we had our first whole school assembly in the gymnasium, which included all of our students from Year 1-6. Highlights included performances from our senior school band and introductory speeches from all of our new staff.

Assemblies will be held at 9:10am every second Monday, with our next assembly on 4th March.  This will be the first assembly that our Prep students attend.  All parents, grandparents and guardians are very welcome to attend.  If your child is in Prep, year 1 or year 2 and they are receiving an award, teachers will endeavour to notify you beforehand.

Stay cool during this warm weather (we have shortened our lunch outside today, due to the heat).
