Public Speaking Event at Padua Mornington: Empowering Student Voices
On Wednesday, 30 April, students from 17 schools gathered at Padua College Mornington for an engaging and thought-provoking public speaking event. As junior and senior students delivered compelling speeches on relevant and challenging topics, the atmosphere was charged with anticipation, courage, and creativity.
Junior participants could choose between “It is better to be an individual than blend in with the crowd” and “A world without social media.” Their speeches demonstrated maturity and insight as they addressed themes of identity, self-worth, and digital influence.
Senior students tackled even more complex themes, choosing between “An Example of Leadership” and “The Most Important Freedom.” Their addresses demonstrated strong critical thinking, personal reflection, and an ability to connect deeply with their audiences.
Each student also participated in an impromptu speaking round, where they were given just five minutes to prepare a short speech — an actual test of composure and clarity under pressure.
We are incredibly proud of our students who took part in this event. Not only did they represent our college with integrity and enthusiasm, but they also demonstrated the power of student voice to spark meaningful conversations.
Events like this remind us of the importance of developing communication skills and confidence in our young people — attributes that will serve them far beyond the classroom.
