Grade 3 Sinclair
Welcome to the half way point of Term 2!
The Grade 3’s have settled back into learning with amazing enthusiasm and confidence as they continue to enjoy the consistency and predictable nature of our new Ochre learning under the Catholic Education Sandhurst’s Magnify initiative.
We have already finished our first text where we were able to explore Australia and how waterfalls were formed through our explanation writing. During literacy we have already covered: Nouns (common, proper, abstract and concrete), verbs, simple and complete sentence structures including the use of conjunctions to combine two independent clauses (ideas) together and so much more. We will continue to consolidate these during our daily literacy reviews.
All students are taking pride in their writing and in particular their handwriting and writing stamina. As we progress through these units it is fantastic to see students having those ‘ah huh’ moments within their learning. Our next text will focus on Australian culture where we will develop a factual recount on the development of the Australia and Aboriginal flag.
In Mathematics, we continue our journey in multiplication and division. Thank you to all families that have supported their child to practice their multiplication facts at home. Their increased ability to recall multiplication facts have shone throughout our learning this term. In the coming weeks we will have a break from multiplication and division and start units on fractions and length which look to be lots of hands-on fun.
As the weather cools, we have had big conversations in our class when we need to put the heater on and how we can stay warm. This came about when we had a few students hugging the heater instead of wearing a jumper. Admittedly, it has been rather cold, and the heater has taken the edge off the fresh mornings. Please remind your child to pack a jumper.
If you would like any more information on what we are learning in class or would like to discuss your child’s progress, please do not hesitate to reach out either via Class Dojo or via my email: rsinclair@olwangaratta.catholic.edu.au
