Autumn Family Day high tea: take the scone pledge!
CET are calling for donations of scone dough for the Autumn Family Day high tea - to be held this Friday, 9th May. The senior kids' cooking club will bake the scones on Friday, after inter-school sports, so we seek scone dough that has been prepared up to the point of being ready to pop in the oven.
Any type of scone is welcome, including gluten-free and vegan variations. Please deliver dough with ingredients clearly listed. Scone dough can be prepared several days in advance and lasts well in the fridge. Use your favourite recipe, or try this simple recipe below:
Ingredients
3 cups self-raising flour, 80g butter, chilled and cubed,1 to 1 1/4 cups milk, plain flour, for dusting
Method
Sift self-raising flour into a large bowl.
Using your fingertips, rub butter into self-raising flour until mixture resembles breadcrumbs.
Make a well in the centre. Add 1 cup of the milk. Mix with a flat-bladed knife until mixture forms a soft dough, adding more milk if required. (Tip: ‘less is more’ when it comes to mixing, and don’t be tempted to use a spoon to stir).
Turn onto a lightly floured surface. Knead gently until smooth; avoid kneading dough too much or scones will be tough.
Pat dough into a 2cm-thick round. Using a 5cm (diameter) round cutter, cut out 12 rounds. Press dough together and cut out any remaining rounds. OR shape the entire dough into a square or rectangle and lightly score the dough into square-shaped scones.
Please deliver unbaked scones to the school front office this coming Friday morning, May 9th.
CET will supply jam and cream.
Kids in particular are encouraged to get involved and TAKE THE SCONE PLEDGE! Sign here to pledge your family's donation of scone dough or other high tea treats, or to VOLUNTEER on the afternoon. Our target is 40 donations of a dozen scones, totalling 480 scones!

Events!
Term 2 will see a bunch of community and fundraising events, so please put these dates in your diary and plan to volunteer for at least one to support the school! Following feedback, we are trialling some alternative options for our plant and produce markets. This term we will have a high tea following the Autumn Family Day, plus a pizza and performance afternoon! We also look forward to our annual Winter Solstice event, which should see some warm drinks, fun activities, and of course, fire!
Term 2 events:
Autumn family day and high tea - Friday 9 May - Come to see your child’s classroom and potentially get involved in baking up a tasty high tea for afternoon tea! Stick around after school for a warm drink and something tasty. Volunteer roster here.
Pizza and performance - Friday 30 May - Buy a slice of pizza cooked in the BNWPS pizza oven and enjoy some music performed by students and others. If you are able to perform, please contact us at cet@brunswicknwps.vic.edu.au
Winter solstice celebration - Friday 20 June -Stick around after school for warm drinks, fires and fun activities for the whole family. More details to follow. If you are interested in helping to organise this event, please let us know at cet@brunswicknwps.vic.edu.au
Looking ahead to term 3…
Confirming that our annual grown-ups only trivia night will be held on Saturday 26 July! Put the date in your diary as it is not to be missed! We will put out themes to vote on very soon - if you have a brilliant idea for a theme, it’s not too late to let us know at cet@brunswicknwps.vic.edu.au.
